I'm looking to build a dual coil. Just wondering what would be the best way to go about it. Two coils side by side running between the posts, two coils in front of the posts, maybe two wire sizes like a 30 in front with 10 wraps and a 32 behind it with 8 wraps. How about it coil masters what can be done?

Wellllll, I'm no coil master (he says with completely false humility); but . . . .

depends on what you want. If you are just looking to drop your resistance, the easiest way to do it is two wires wrapped in parallel on a single wick. Just grab two lengths of wire, and treat them as one.

this one ^ is two different gauges. There's not much reason to go there. I just chose the pic to really show that there's two wires, and what they are doing.

If you want more juice cookin', more vapor production (other than just the result of lower res.), you could try two, side by side. With any multiple coil, you want to keep the wires the same length in order to have them heat at the same rate. I wrap two identical coils, then twist the legs together, so that I can work with the legs as if they were one and the same. (this helps with the length business)

If you're just bored (like I am right now, so I'm being silly and totally picture-ho.ing) you could try a tripple.

So, wire lengths should be exactly equal. Your resistance (with dual) will net @ 1/2 the resistance of ONE of the coils. . . . 2 coils @ 1Ω will net 0.5Ω

with 3 coils, it will be 1/3 the resistance of any one of the coils

We played with multiple gauges a bit (Jerms and Statistic and me . .. Xobe, maybe, i forget) and it seemed like the resulting resistance would be 1/2 of the LOWER GAUGE coil.

That looks so delicious, I might just have to try it soon :D.

Guess I should have said I was looking for vapor and taste. I don't care much about TH. Thanks I just have a limited amount of wire prolly 8' now was 3' each of 28, 30, 32 I thought it would be enough to figure what I liked best. Might just order 100' of each and go from there and have fun experimenting. I might try the one xobe had with dual down the middle to keep it low for less TH.

I just made my first dual setup it's 10 wrap x 28awg (Semi)micro coils 1.8ohm each so
.9ohm total and it's excellent mostly...
Just be careful and safe experimenting!

Not to thread Jack but the vape is just a tiny bit hotter than I'd like, anyone know if a change in wraps would result in a slightly cooler vape? Thanks

Taking a coil or two out should cool things a bit but it will also lower your ohms. Feel free to use my thread anytime to collect knowledge. That's why I opened it.

like this - poor man's vape - i am no pdib. what you see from the left is the wire 32g kanthal and from the bottom up the silica wick, the same with wire on it blowtorched and finally a crap old one i have been using for a week.

Make a loop in it and then wrap it - if you are totally stupid and do not understand the dangers of messing with such things then for all our sake's just don't!

i cannot stress enough the risks you take, because unless you are a seasoned vaper you will hurt yourself and burn your house to the ground.

Well, yeah its hot. You've got a lot of wire in there. Lot of heat being generated. I hardly ever build dual coils, and when I do, they don't stay in there for long. I build them for amusement and experiment. (or, if the wire on hand doesn't provide the resistance I want)

Best vapor and taste I get is from using 8 wraps (micro) of whatever gauge gets the resistance I want. That's what I vape day in and out. Single coil.

This is a very true story! I know what I am doing and collapsed a spring tonight in the name of science.

Just be careful.

Basically, me and Trunker are of the same mindset and same simple coils. He has 8 wraps of higher res. wire on his build. He does a dual coil and approximates a fatter wire with it. simple = good.

ETA: its just, on the weekends, I build dualies, and he blows up garbage cans with 1/2 sticks of dynamite. :p

(oh, and then tells her majesty that it was the neighbor kids) ;) :p

pdib's been preaching this awhile and I got it from him with my first REO. I play around, but come back to this. It's "the law" for my daily driver micro coils.
