I got the Kayfun ES 3.1 clone from fasttech a few days ago (I already have HCigar version, and rocket version). As it was not set up, I wanted to try setting up dual vertical micro coils. Made sure that they were equal wraps, checked the ohms and it came to 0.9 on my Vamo. I test fired it, and it worked for a few seconds...then stopped working. No matter what I was doing it was coming up at 9.9 ohms on Vamo (error reading). Took it to my local B&M to help. It turns out that the insulators had melted. The B&M took it apart, and said that the insulators on the fasttech version weren't good (like an insulator on other versions wasn't in this version). He had the parts there and replaced the insulator. It was his opinion not to do a dual coil on a Kayfun because it may melt the insulators. I just set up a plain jane single microcoil and called it a day.

Now I have seen pictures and posts about people doing dual microcoils on a Kayfun. I was wondering what I did wrong or if the fasttech version is not capable of doing dual micro coils. Thank you.

Fasttech is known for its wonderfully low prices, unfortunately, low prices means low priced parts. The insulators you have encountered were probably Polyethelyne plastic ( pretty much the same thing in the top caps of water bottles). It has a fairly decient melt point but its not like delrin... ( a very hi melt point as far as plastics go). The upper end attys ( in most cases) use delrin as an insulator.

Fasttech is not a producer, just a distributor, I would think this would be the case with all clones

My vamo won't even fire at 0.9 ohm. I am using mine on the nemesis clone. However, I find that I like it better with a single coil.

Sorry, was firing on a nemesis. The Vamo is being used as an ohm reader (and isn't seeing much use since I switched to mechanicals)

I run single coils in my FT KFL clone hotter than that and haven't had any trouble. Current build is .8Ω

I'm wondering if something shorted which may have melted it quickly.

I did set up a single coil microcoil at 0.9 ohm (and I'm running it that way now, without any problems). I didn't know if the dual coil sub ohm was a no no on the Kayfun.
