'dual' or 'quad', not should I, but which is this..

okay, so I have a build that is completed and I am trying to check on the ohm rating in a calc before I fire it and watch the pretty coils burn. I just need to make sure I can fire this thing without any mishaps.. anyway heres my issue..

I have two individual wires, that each have two '5/4' wrapped coils. I can't for the life of me figure out if this would be considered a dual coil (which it obviously isn't,) or a quad coil (by their definition a quad is with four strands of wire..). so any takers on what's the general idea in this situation?

I personally don't have an ohm reader, and have to wait for my buddy to get off to use his tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to waiting all day..

The number of coils per strand, isn't relevant for net resistance measurement purposes. It's called a dual parallel / series.
A pair (parallel) with two coils in series. It could be a parallel pair with an infinite coils per strand, and as @Mad Scientist indicated, it's measured as a dual parallel... as there are two strands with separate grounds.

Sorry for not being on topic, but what is up with that center post?
A WAG would be a rusty steel post under a "flash" chrome or nickel layer... or the center screw that's not shown has transferred some rust.

Gotta' give 'em credit for a great, in focus, close-up though... eh?

YMMV?

at first glance it *looks* like a quad coil, but following the connections it seems to be dual coil.

what's '5/4'

If you are trying to calculate the resistance, you have not provided enough information.

It looks like you have two coils made from one piece of wire on each side, which means you have essentially two 10-wrap coils in parallel. There is no way of knowing the resistance without more information. What size wire?...what is the inner diameter of the coil?

Making some assumptions for an example, if you had a 10-wrap coil of 26ga Kanthal with an inside diameter of 2.5mm - that would give you a coil resistance of approximately 1.2 ohms - even if the coil was split into two 5-wrap coils, it's still the same continuous piece of wire. If you were to run two of those in parallel, you would have .6 ohms total.

Having said all of that, wait for an ohm meter - unless you are firing this on a regulated mod.

I know what wire(nichrome 80/20), gauge(24), and diameter of the coil(2mm), I simply wasn't sure on whether it would be dual or quad, our apparently dual parallel our whatever the case may be.

what's '5/4'
not a full 5 wraps, 5 on the top-side, four if you look on the underside.

I had no intention of firing with no knowledge as to what would happen, that's for simple wraps and brave, handless souls. generally if it rates under .7 I like to have an exact before trying the build out..

hat is up with that center post? Man, that thing looks gnarly.

do you speak of the ratchetness or color? I acquired this from my "vape sponsor" (guy that got me into vaping, building, person I call for answers like this before I got on here..) second-hand, and as far as color goes, as far as I knew- that's how it is supposed to look?
