I would just rinse them under tap water. If its a stronger flavor I would let them soak in everclear for a night then rinse them with tap water in the morning.
You can wash them, you can soak them, but the main thing (the only right thing) - you need to dry burn them.
If you rinse them in water, they're going to want to rust. Leaving them soaking in alcohol (not denatured) or putting some vg back on them to prevent oxidation will help after the soak and cleaning. Getting the prior flavor completely out of a coil hasn't always been entirely successful with me. I usually have a few coils/tanks that I use for my main different flavors.
Problem with coil heads is that while they can be washed, hot water or alcohol or whatever method. You only get 1 maybe 3 washings before the wicks and possibly the coils need to be replaced. You might want to do some study on REcoiling the Kanger heads.
about how long should I dry burn. usually I do it for a 5-8 seconds but im afraid of burning it out. im getting real airy hits with little smoke. and I changed it out last week and haven't been using it every day.
I use to "pulse" dry burn mine. 2-3 seconds.
