First batch of DIY is done and a lot of my flavors are either bitter or blan.

These are my ratios:
70%vg
30%pg (20% pg flavoring with 10% plain pg)

I ordered some liquid stevia sweetener, a caramel flavor extract, and a cookie dough flavor extract. Will these help bring more flavor to the table? Or is it because im working with a higher VG content that my flavors dull out?

Im dripping these high VG fluids on a .5 ohm coil running at roughly 35 watts (At full battery in my mechanical mod)

A higher VG concentrate usually produces a sweeter vape. Those flavors you bought may help and I find most of the sweetness comes from the flavoring. Be careful with the stevia and start at 1%, mix then steep. Time is usually what will bring out the flavor and sweetness so steeping is usually nessessary. If need be you can work up from there.

To high of a voltage or to hot of a coil will also tend to burn a to sweet mix so make sure your not mistaking a bitter or burnt taste for to hot of a coil. It also could be that you over sweetened which contributes to coil gunking and burning.

It's kinda hard to Quantify because Taste is So Subjective.

But as a General Rule, the More VG in a Mix, the More "Muted" (for lack of a Good Word) the flavor becomes.

Don't forget about "Steeping" though. My Freshly Mixed Watermelon/Sweet Tart blend tastes Bland and a Little Funky. But after 2 Days of sitting, the Watermelon has started to Increase. And after 3 or 4 days, the Sweet Tart seems to come into its own.

Ah ok i see. I used 1/4tsp of stevia powder mixed into my 30ml Strawberry/gummi bear mix. Its much better than it was before, but im still not getting tons of sweetness. Could it be that the flavors i bought from ebay are absolute garbage from china? :p

My flavors have been steeping for over 48 hours now, but perhaps they do need more time to develop. Its a good thing im taste testing every day

Almost all of my mixes are high VG pretty much 80/20 and up. I think they are more muted than some pg mixes, I also find that you get a little more flavor if you vape it at a slightly higher wattage. Maybe its not your juice thats muted but the power delivery that is muting it. If you only have a mechanical you could build your coil just a hair lower to get more wattage.

It is good to Taste a New e-Liquid Recipe when you First Mix it. Then at say 48 Hours. Then Again at 3 or 4 days. That way you know how your Mix will react to Time.

Most (almost all) of My Mixes don't change much after 5 Days of Sitting. So when I start to run low of Something, I like to Mix so I don't run out in the Next 5 Days.

---

I like Sweet e-Liquids. And the Only Sweetener I have ever found that can get me to the Sweetness Level I was is Pure Sucralose in a PG Solution.

Not Splenda. Not something from the Grocery Store that has Bulking Agents in it.
Pure Sucralose in PG. I use TFA's Sweetener because it is Just That. Pure Sucralose in PG.

Next time you are shopping for DIY Supplies, you might pick up a 30ml Bottle. Just be Warned that a Little goes a Long Way.

Why do i see so many people on here starting their diy experience with such high percentages of flavoring?

Too much flavoring can cancel itself out in my experience and leave you with an off tasting or bland mix that needs to be cut down to really be enjoyed. Where as if you start low and dont think theres enough flavoring its really simple to add more to taste..

My thing was that if i started at 10% flavoring and i made my blend 70%vg and 30%pg, that means 10% of the 30 that is PG would be flavor and the other 20% would be plain old PG. If i needed to add more, then i would have to then calculate how much more VG i need to add in order to maintain that 70:30 percentage ratio. Its a laziness things i guess

In that case you can either do very small (2 or 3 ml) sample batches or just don't worry about it because in my experience that isn't going to effect things all that much.. You can get your flavor percentages dialed in and not have to worry toooo much about pg or vg percentage until the next batch. Then you plug in the percentage of flavor that was good for you and the pg/vg ratio you want. If the vg mutes the flavor you can always adjust again and make the corrections in your next batch. Either way it's better than mixing up a batch with too much flavoring... like I said it's much harder to get things back to right when you're having to add more pg and vg than when you're adding more flavor. Only thing I'd worry about is lessening the percentage of nic, but I don't even see nicotine in your first post so I'm guessing you're going 0 nic..

Dang i wish i didnt order the stevia sweetener now!

DIY isn't one of those things you can just Read About on a forum and then make e-Liquids that You like.

You have to Try Things. So I think it is Good that you Bought that Stevia. Because you May Love it.

And hate the Taste of Sucralose. Or you Might think Sucralose is Better than Stevia. But the Only way to know is to Buy a Bottle of Sucralose and Try it.

Yes i am 0 nic. I hear what you are saying. This is part of the learning experience, right? Silly mistakes like this lol. Hey ive only spent 50$ so far which is equivalent to about 3-4 30ml bottles of commercial juice. I have a LOT of materials left to use so i will still get my money out of it AND the flavors i enjoy :)

Well said zoidman! I did go ahead and order some of TFA's sweetener because its so dang cheap (Plus like you said it goes a long way). This way i can compare and contrast to see which sweetener i like best. Who knows, maybe ill find out that mixing the two tastes the best!?

This might not have that odd taste that you associate with stevia: EZ-Sweetz De-bittered Stevia (1.36oz - Liquid Sweetener 300 Servings/Bottle):Amazon:Grocery & Gourmet Food

Its what i ordered. Apparently it doesnt have the "bitter" aftertaste anymore

People like to Make DIY sound Very Scientific.

But to tell you the Truth, there is a Lot of Trial and Error when you 1st start Mixing. Which can at Times, be Frustrating.

But at the Same Time, it can be Kinda Fun. And I have Stumbled across Many Flavor Combinations that I would Never have thought Worked if I hadn't had a Bunch of Flavors laying around. And a Little time to try Mixing some "Experimental Batches".
