Dumb Question... Why PG & VG

I'm sure this is dumb question... but why do we use PG & VG for vaping? Wouldn't the results be the same if we added nicotine and flavoring to distilled water? Wouldn't it be easier to vaporize the liquid?

Please feel free to call me an idiot, but I can't seem to think of any reason why that wouldn't work.

Anyone know the history of ejuice and how it was determined that a PG/VG mix was best?

I'm not positive, but I know water kills vapor, from the initial vape of a freshly washed atomizer that hasn't dried completely. I'd also suspect the ingredients wouldn't hold in suspension very well. Leaking would be more prevalent and wicking might be more difficult in some situations.

i suspect its emulsifiers in the two chemicals that give you the clouds of vape...water wouldnt look like vapor even if it were able to carry the nicotine

you probably need the viscosity of some combination of pg/vg to carry the nic into your mouth and lungs

Yes, but they don't heat the water to vaporize it. They use a high velocity air stream to shear off particles of the solution or ultrasonic vibration to eject droplets from the fluid body.
