I would not have bought this exept it went on sale for $5 and free shipping
I am a MTL Toodle Puffer and I know this mod was not designed for this.

But is there anyway of taming this thing down so I can use atty's like Kayfuns and other single coil atty's ?

I uasually vape at 3.7 volts or about 12 watts

Two options off the top of my head:

1. Build a high resistance coil. You'd have to use really thin wire and a lot of wraps, but if you could build something up in the 5-6 ohm range that would tame things down.

2. Get a pair of quality IFR (LiFePO4) 18650s (I like these LiFePO4 Battery | 18650 LiFePO4 Cell | A123 Cells). They're only 1100 mah, but they have an honest 30 amp CDR. They'll start off at around 7v or a hair over right off the charger and decline to a ~5.5-6v, where they stay for a while (very flat discharge curve). I buy mine from batteryspace.com, as I've had good luck with them and these aren't the easiest cells to come by. They do sell them for much cheaper at some of the Chinese sites, but I have doubts about the authenticity of those.

3. I know, I said two, but the third option would be a combination of the previous two: high ohms and IFR batts.

Haha! That's a pretty good analogy. Still, if you have it and want to vape it at a lower power, there are ways. BTW, I forgot calculations for the IFR cells. If you want around 12 watts to start (assuming IFR cells), you'd want to go around 4 ohms, or around 3 ohms for 12 watts once the cells set into the main part of their discharge (the majority of your vaping time).

And don't forget to make sure you have a charger that can charge IFR cells. Many 18650 chargers are not capable.

It's possible, as is anything if you are determined enough. You are right though it's the wrong tool for the job. A bit like buying a welding torch to make toast. Leave it lying around they look very cool, or give it to someone who wants a series box.

To get 14 watts from the NC you would need a 6 ohm coil.
25 wraps 28AWG 3.5mm ID single coil. You would need a pretty big atty to house that coil, and I find 28G very flimsy to use. On the upside you would get about two weeks runtime out of it between charges.

Yeah you could build a higher resistance coil. You're not going to get it down to something akin to 12 watts. But you can mellow it out a bit by building higher. I've got a .8 ohm single coil build on mine right now. It's not too crazy. You can also open up the airflow of your atty to mellow out the throat hit.

But lets talk for a minute about the toppers you're planning to try out on this. This is a direct to battery mod. You can't just put any topper on it. The center pin has to be set up a certain way. The center pin needs to be fixed (non-spring loaded. If it moves it's a no go), and must protrude at least 1 mm from the threads. Longer is better. A peek insulator is also a good idea. If you put the wrong topper on this (one that's spring loaded, or with a center pin that doesn't protrude enough), you might find yourself with a short. You short your batteries and they might just vent in your face. So don't go putting just anything on it. I bought mine with the Indestructible atty. It's designed to be used with a direct to battery mod, and it has airflow you can set up to be compatible with a single coil.

I really can't stress enough how important it is to put the right topper on this mod. If you want a little more versatility with your mod to use what you like, you're going to have to get a 510 conversion kit.

@Forkeh brings up very valid points about the atty pin, it can be a bad day if things don't go right with parts fiting right!
I honestly don't know what they were thinking when they made this mod, it frustrates me to no end!
As to getting it where you want, without spending a small fortune to get there, and upping the voltage to boot. I'd get some 30-32ga Kanthal, I can make you a coil if needed, and wrap up a 5 ohm coil. This will be a bit warm with fresh batteries, but settle in around 12w as the batteries run in. As others said, this will provide great runtime as you are only drawing around 1.2a!

Some great point here. Yes, you will need a certain charger if you decide to go IFR. I've been using my Nitecore D2s for this, but I just got one of the newest i2s, which has a handier interface for choosing charging voltage, and allows you to select 3.7, 4.2, or 4.35 with the touch of a button on the face of the unit. I haven't hooked it up yet, but it looks promising. Also the hybrid issue. This one I totally forgot to address, but it's a biggie! Forkeh covered why in great detail. Fat Daddy Vapes makes an upgraded top kit for the NC, which includes an improved switch and a regular 510 connector that gets good reviews. Of course, all of this costs money, which you may not want to add to the NC. About $16 for the charger and $15 for the upgrade kit.

edit: Of course, the charger can be used for all your batteries, and the upgrade kit comes with its own tube so you can use it as a stand alone tube mod, and they (the switch and 510 connector) will probably also fit other mods, depending upon threading size and pitch, so both items will be useful for stuff beyond just the NC.

Hahaha! Yeah, I literally missed them by one day. I saw them at ecig.com for $6 and debated whether I really needed another one (or more), but I waited till the next day to finally decide, and they had gone up to $10. I still picked up a couple. $10 isn't a bad price.
