More like a side-step than a step up. The KR808D-1 is the same size as the 510. But outputs a true 3.7v rather than 3.2 like the 510. That said, I started with an 808 and moved to the 510 system because it's just more universal and I liked the way it vaped more.

Thank you... I didn’t know that.... I have tried the eGo and 510

Ok now you are going to make me go out and actually try the KR808D I didn’t realize they were the same size.

Understood, and I agree that the reason I am recommending the 510 for casual smokers is the size and now that I have tired it... is impressive.

For someone that smokes a lot.. I’m still recommending the eGo or Riva as it is likely to be the most satisfying to a new user.

Tell you what though... my daughter loves her 510 and when I tried it... I was impressed.. good vapor

I completely agree. With the benefit that you can use low resistance atty's and carto's on eGos and Rivas without worry of killing your 510 batteries. To me that's one of the biggest reasons to go that route over a standard 510.

I vape both 510 manual w/ Boge cartos and NoSmokeVA PCC plus and KR808D-1 standard size manuals (120mm long w/ carto). In addition I have a full charging setup at work and I carry a charged fat battery with me (Riva 510). Even with standard res cartos, the Riva gives a slightly warmer bigger hit so I use it when I want some bigger hits and it also serves as a 750mah spare battery if I screw up charging the small ones or end up away from power for a while.

I actually think the 510 + Boge standard res carto combo is extremely pleasing, especially w/ a drip tip as a mouthpiece so the air hole is wider - I get really nice hits. But I am using thin juice with strong flavor, not VG. I'm using Vapor4Life WOWbacco which seems to be mostly PG - maybe 10 or 20% VG. Hard to tell. Very thin and flows well.

Why do you want to use VG? PG is used in hospital inhalation therapy, even for lung transplant patients.

Yep.. I started with the eGo tank, but have moved to LR cylinder atomizers and type b cartridges.. .and I am REALLY happy with my unit. Not perfect... but very VERY good.

I do have to say though, my daughter wanted one that was smaller, with my 1000 mah battery mine looks like a cigar, so I got her the 510, and as Doormouse also said, it was quite satisfying, I was and am very impressed with the little 510. My daughter LOVES it, but she is a light smoker and the little battery is lasting her 3 days between charges.

which means I am trying harder not to harass people about the size thing, if it is important to them, then it is important to them. Not for me to decide for them. So the 510 is now definitely on my list of recommendations.... but now I have to try the 808's too. :)

But one thing you are saying I am also saying, get something that is standard, not some proprietary thing. Hence the 510, or 808 or eGo or what have you.

p.s. Health Club has a 510 kit in 10 different colors for less than $30, that too was impressive.

My girlfriend is/was a lighter smoker and she does fine with the standard joye 510 kit (two batteries to last her the day). I was a pack a day smoker and the standard 510 dies much too quickly for me. I since purchased a riva 510 SE, and typically one battery lasts me almost the full day, at which point I switch to the second battery. I quickly realized that at least for me switching from real cigs to these was more important to me than the look of the thing. :)

I agree with dnB - surely quitting the analogs is more important than looks. As a newcomer to e-cigs myself (8 days now)I fell into the trap of a cheap imitation cigerette style PV - it lasted 4 days before becoming more of a hassle than it was worth - through recommendations and some brilliant info by the guys on here I bought the Riva SE and it blew my mind. It really is beyond comparisson. The only advice I can give is to seriously listen to the comments before you jump in as these guys know their stuff and then some.

As for juice - theres so much choice out there it could take you a while to find the one thats right for you but it should be fun trying :)

All the best chief!

For what its worth, I originally used a shopping mall grade no-name cigarette look alike to attempt to quit analogs, and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. Then I found this forum, devoured everything I could read, and ordered an eGo-like variant, the Volcano Inferno. What a difference. Within a few days I had not only quit smoking, but had the revelation that I didn't actually need the e-cig to taste like a real cigarette. Now the only holdover from my analog days is my preference for mentholated flavors. Nothing strong, just the fresh throat/lung feeling that results from menthol flavoring. What I've ended up doing (like many others here) is trying sample packs from dozens of vendors and picking my daily vapes from those. I also keep a bottle of menthol drops around to add to plain fruit flavors to adjust them more to my liking. Good luck and have fun experimenting!

I got an EGO and a 510 manual and auto
When i'm confortable, i use the EGO with low res cartoms so I get lot of vape and a a very long lasting battery.
If I need something less" fancy", I just screw the same cartom on the 510 battery.
When i'm driving, I use the automatic 510 battery for most, as it's light enough to keep it in my mouth.
With my way of vaping, one Ego battery last as much as four 510 batteries.
Hope this help.

Go with the riva, nice and cheap. Feels good in your hand. Its. a lot smaller than it looks in pictures and the battery lasts all day. I hold it in my palm with only about an inch exposed so nobody can really see it anyways. The riva can also handle low resistance cartomizers and atomizers so you can get closer to that "real cig" taste/feel that your looking for. As far as juices. Any.juice will go in any carto that is refillable. It seems that you have s lot to learn here. Don't.be overwhelmed. You will soon find your niche and the people here are awesome and will help you conquer your goals!

its little bit misleading to say " get this unit, the battery lasts all day". everyone has different habits, some take longer inhales, some shorts, some puff all day long, some put it away for a while etc etc. for some, the ego 650 battery will last all day, some need 3 of those to get them through a day. maybe a slim 510 battery will last someone a day, i personally would go through 8 of them. i go through almost 3 650 ego batteries per day and i was a 2 pad. im vaping 18 mg juice but if i would up it to say...24 mg? 2 ego 650 batteries would last me all day....so your mileage will vary greatly.

Although I agree with function over fashion, lets not be too hasty

If what it looks like is the difference between them trying it, and not trying it ( which was the case with my daughter )

Then I would rather see them with a smaller 510 than continue to smoke cigarettes.

Great points from both of you :)
