It took me about a month to finally stop smoking analogs after getting my first e-cig, a 901. I started vaping mid July 2009 but still smoked between 3-5 analogs daily. On August 16, 2009, I smoked my last analog...I'll never forget that day! :D 75 days without smoking!

My old record about 2 years ago was 3 months going cold turkey. But I got stressed out about something, saying I would just have one and before i knew it, I was back to smoking almost a pack a day.

I am so glad a mechanic friend turned me on to e-cigs, even if I did spend way too much buying my first one at a mall kiosk. After smoking on and off (mostly on) for 20+ years, I feel confident that I have smoked my last analog.

The first day I started using my e-cig, I had 4 cigarettes, the second day 2, the third one, and the fourth day, NONE! This is from someone who tried the patch, didn't work at all, I got hooked on the gum AND cigarettes, chantix helped me cut back, but not completely quit, and it's sooo expensive I couldn't continue buying it, cold turkey didn't work, I've tried everything, and then suddenly the e-cig! No withdraws, I can breathe again, everything smells and tastes better, and I have NO desire to smoke a nasty cigarette ever again. I'm currently stepping my nicotine down to zero with different fluids. THIS IS THE BEST INVENTION EVER!!!!!

After a cigarette addiction of 43 long years, thanks to my 510 and lots of trial and error with achieving just the right juice, I had my last analog exactly one week ago. Over those many years, I had tried every method known to stop smoking (hypnosis, acupuncture, gum, patches, and Chantix) but never lasted longer than 3 weeks. I know now that all these methods failed because the bottom line is this --- I LOVED the act of smoking! That's why I truly believe that I'm done with cigarettes for good this time because I finally can have my cake and eat it too! I started vaping a couple of months ago and found myself smoking fewer and fewer analogs every week until I finally got rid of them all together!

Like so many others have said, i didn't really think ecigs would make me stop smoking. What I wanted was a sneaky way to get my hit of nic at work. I am very happy and still surprised how much I love vaping! Still have 5 packs of unopened analogs but have no desire to smoke them. Can't imagine going back to analogs now, just hope the Gov won't ban them.

Guitarman: I started out from July 7th smoking 1-3 analogs daily until I learned that I could bump my e-liquid dose a bit higher using the unflavored 48mg e-liquid nicotine. By the 10th day, I was strictly using my Dura-C (Janty's version of the Joye 510). I haven't had an analog cigarette since.

I wish I could have attempted the Chantix but my Medicare insurance won't cover it and it's too expensive for me to buy on my own; however, I don't think it's the Holy Grail of smoking cessation. A dear friend of mine and her husband went on the Chantix. Last I heard her husband was still cigarette-free; however, my friend is still smoking as the Chantix didn't work for her. She and her husband are fortunate b/c he works for the railroad and his insurance is great! :(

I'm actually happy for them but I sure wish we had that kind of insurance. None of the private companies will touch DH, our oldest daughter, or me because of pre-existing conditions. I've spoke to hundreds of different companies and usually they hang up on me once I mention juvenile diabetes (DH), lupus (SLE) and Sjogren's plus retinal eye disease (for me), and bad hip/pelvis along with a heart condition from birth for our oldest daughter (she has paroxysmal atrial tacychardia w/ an irregular heart beat). I worry about our daughter b/c she hasn't had a stress test with echo in about 2-1/2 to 3 years now and she's supposed to have them every year to every 6months or more if complications arises. She has had a few episodes of tachycardia lately so I am pushing her to push corporate where she works to get her insurance through. I'm afraid she will end up having to have the surgery to shorten out that noid that's mis-firing and hope it works. There is also another concern. She's now engaged and when she and her fiancee are married and decide if they are or aren't going to have children they will have to seek the advice of a OB/GYN and orthopedic specialist in the area of OB/GYN to find out if she can even carry a child, carry one to term, and if she will be able to have natural childbirth or if she will have no choice but to go through a c-section b/c she was t-boned in the driver's side door some years ago and the guy hit her so hard it broke the driver's seat off the car's frame. He was a cop from another county and that blue wall went up; they blamed her even though he was the one speeding. If he had been going 30mph versus 50mph or more she would never have been hurt as badly. It took her months to learn to walk again and then to walk without a walker or cane all while going to school, or rather going to school once she made it through physical therapy enough to allow her to use a walker to get around the high school. BTW, she is even happy I've switched to the e-cigs. I get little messages every now and again asking if I am still staying away from the analogs and I tell her that my last half of a pack is still on my desk untouched. She likes it even more because I can breath better.

Sorry, didn't mean to ramble on like I have. One more thing about the patch & gum from the Nicorette supplies, I'd have had better luck rolling the patch and smoking it than I did wearing it. As for the gum, I can't chew gum b/c it causes inflammation in my jaw from TMJ disorder. It was a wash the first piece I tried to chew. I tossed the rest. Wellbutrin and Zyban didn't work either. E-cigs work. I am lowering my nicotine dosage a little each time and it's working without the cravings making me uncomfortable. I do dose up when stressed or upset or downright angry but other than that, I'm doing well on them. I didn't plan to quit and I may not but if I do lower the dose to under the 24 to 20mgs that would be good too.

Before I forget, I am going to try to make an appt with my doctor tomorrow. If by chance I disappear from the boards don't think I've abandoned you guys. I was exposed to the H1N1 regardless and I've been fighting it for 2 weeks now even with a 10-day dosing of Tamiflu but I'm not getting better; I'm getting worse so there's a chance my doc may put me in the hospital for IV fluids and antibiotics. I'm fairly sure I have a sinus infection and with the way my ears are hurting inside I may have ear infections too. I was just on a run of Cipro for another infection and with that so close I shouldn't have this infection so he may put me in for a few days for IV fluids and IV antibiotics so the lupus doesn't get out of control along with the infections.

I'm bringing my e-cigs with me if he does put me in the hospital. It's not got smoke so I should be able to vape in my room without setting off any alarms.

mine went something like this:
-had 10 ciggs left when my kit arrived mid-day
-smoked 9 ciggs over the next 2 days along with vaping (usually a little over a pack a day smoker)
-by the third day, I left one cigg in the pack because I couldn't face the taste/feel of really smoking anymore.
-38 days later and it would still be there if my gf hadn't smoked it LOL

haven't had, nor wanted, a real cigg since then

I can also say the first week was the main challenge for me. First thing in the morning with my coffee, I had an analog, After lunch another analog, after supper one more. This lasted about a week. Then analog free!
The funny thing is I work out of town a lot and live out of hotels and my work van. Today I needed to change coats from heavy to a windbreaker, Removed it from my van, felt in the pocket and there was the dreaded un-opened pack of analogs.
I looked at it for about 10 seconds, then tossed it in the trash.
Now for me that is one hell of a testimony after 30 years for smoking, loving it, and not really looking to quit.
I will never go back unless there is a total ban and I can't find someway to vape!

Let me just add. I had no intention of quitting smoking. My new hubby was bugging me coz he said my smoking around him bothered him. All I really wanted the e-cig for was so I could 'smoke' in my livingroom while we watched TV. I thought that I could use an e-cig around him, and then I'd just smoke real cigs when he wasn't around. So I didn't get the e-cig so I'd quit smoking. But, surprise for me, I got the e-cig 2 weeks ago, and have never lit a real cig since. I have like 8 packs of real cigs still sitting in my drawer. Before getting my e-cig, when I got down to 2 packs of real cigs, I'd get to the store (even at midnight) just to make sure I had enough. Over 40 years of smoking, I quit real cigs...once for 4 months, once for 3 months, once for 2 months, once for 1 month, and once for 1 week. I tried the patch, gum, cold-turkey, pills, acupuncture, hypnosis...nothing worked. The whole time I wasn't smoking, I constantly thought about smoking, dreamed about smoking. The last time I quit, which was 10 years ago, I decided I would never quit again. My getting the e-cig wasn't because I wanted to quit smoking...it was only to be able to 'smoke' around my new hubby. I am utterly shocked, amazed, and surprised that I have no desire for a real cig now. If only e-cigs had been around like 30 years ago, I would have been 'smoke free' all these years. I am one who 'accidently' quit smoking because of the e-cig. Who ever invented the e-cig should get the Noble Peace Prize...coz the e-cig has actually made it so the anti-smoking people can get their dream of a smoke free world realized.

I'm having a few issues with my e-cig's atty at the moment, but other than that I've noticed a huge huge change. I went from half a pack to a pack a day , now only 4 or so analogs a day!

It's baby steps, but e-cigs have changed my life for sure! I'm spreading the word as often as I can. Already converted a few people :)

2 pks of Marlboro Med /day (3 if I was bored) and have been smoking for 20 yrs. From the time I got my first e-cig, I only smoked when the battery was recharging and haven't had one since I got my USB passthrough. Today is my 8th day analog free. Got my first 510 kit on Fri. I know I'll never smoke again.

Good for you Arkayne! I've been a Marlboro Med 100 kinda girl myself. One thing I've noticed since I've been vaping the last time I touched a Marlboro I felt disgusted. My first analog of 8 yrs I couldn't smoke... now if I can feel the same way about Camel Wide Lights that would be great!

I was smoking a small pack of golden virginia rolling tobacco evry day, had done for the last 14 yrs, I'm fit and don't cough, I'd really enjoy my fags and didn't really see a need to quit (I have no kids and my otherhalf smokes Malborough Lights) so there I was happy smoking away, I'm an actor and when working I do Promo work for various people, Two weeks a go I had a job for Intellicig and was given an Evo to try at home for a day before I had to demonstate it - well I hadn't even HEARD of e-cigs. I thought "Ok I'll do an experiment then, I'll try the Evo and see how I go tonight, if I want a ..., I'll have one".
Well........I didn't want one that night...............Had one the next evening to compare the sensation (I wasn't desperate for one but not having had one for a day I was curious to see If I'd go "Oh yeah this feels better than an e -cig".....it didn't
I haven't had a ... for nearly two weeks and I didn't even WANT to give up!
I've got some liquid, lots of batteries, a couple of attys.....this stuff is great!
I've still got the packet of tobacco I had bought the day before I met Anthony at Intellicig, as soon as I saw hit vape up in a coffee shop to show me how it worked I was gone!
While demonstrating for Intellicig that weekend at the Trafford centre it was amazing to see the smokers who reacted just as I did, some people, as soon as they pick it up and take thier first puff can see in a flash just how liberating and fantastic these things are.
I'm not smoking at all now, I'm just trying to find the right flavour, but I'm very happy!

Hi,

I haven't had an analog since my first e-cig arrived almost nine weeks ago. BUT...I didn't plan to quit. I found to my surprise that I no longer wanted to fire up an analog, so I haven't, although I took a couple of drags off a friend's a few weeks ago, just to see what it was like. It tasted terrible.

So, what I'm saying is that maybe some of you are having trouble giving up analogs because you feel you are GIVING UP something, and you feel deprived. Maybe it would help to suggest to yourself that you aren't giving up anything; you have just switched brands and you can smoke/vape the new brand all you want. No pressure. No "success" or "failure"---just a new brand.

Some of you peeps make me so jealous, for me it is a constant battle to not have an analog. The smell of a fresh cig still smells good to me and once in a while I will take a drag off a friends cig and they don't taste bad. Vapor being much thinner than smoke doesn't feel the same to me. Ive spent way to much money chasing that perfect device so eni is way more expensive for me. Anyways still plugging along 21 days and no analog.

Got my e-cig last Monday. Put my analogs in the cupboard and haven't looked at them since. Smoked 40yrs 1-2 pk daily and have never tried to quit. I just knew there was no way cigarettes would not be in my life. I discovered e-cigs on accident and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Every day I wake up and don't want an analog smoke, I'm amazed and still in shock. E-cigs have changed my life. My family are amazed as well. They can't believe I don't want a cig. I do believe it's me and my e-cigs for life.
