So, I've been vaping since august '09. No issues.
Late July this summer, I was in the hospital for 5 days, tested in unspeakable ways, to find out, I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. Odd such, that my sister has been diagnosed since 1987.
Anyways, I was on a regimen of Entecort EC(steroid) and Pentasa(anti-inflammatory).
Just a couple weeks ago I was weeded down to no Entecorts. Still take 16 Pentasa a day.
I started developing burning in my esophagus within a couple days of going off entecort. It seems to hit me directly after a hit of vape. I use a home mix, of pg, menthol drops and nic.
Odd thing is, vaping never gave me this feeling before, as the GI doc said he believed I have had Crohn's for quite a while, just didn't know.
I'm perplexed because I don't know if it's a case where the steroids were doing me good, and stopping caused the issue or if now that I am a full Crohn's patient, the vaping is irritating me. I know vaping isn't smoking, but smoking can irritate Crohn's patients. I am wondering if there is some correlation there.
I am seeking alternative methods for treatment as we speak, as I do NOT like taking steroids or any pills for that matter that are chemically derived.
I go back to the GI doc in 2 weeks. I plan to discuss this with him then.
Are there any other Crohn's patients on here, or any that any of you know of that use a vaping device, and have noticed any adverse affects during or while off medications?
As a side note, while on the Entecort, I did not experience this. Oddly enough, what I am experiencing now, was not experienced as the symptoms that originally caused me to go to the ER. So I'm not sure about not taking the Entecort causing it, because I didn't have this issue before.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
