So I was out picking up dinner, listening to the radio, and I came up with an interesting game...

Define your personality through music!!
I am 30% Metallica, 30% Talking Heads, 20% Oingo Boingo, and 20% Bob Marley.

I'm gonna go the much more generic route with this...

65% Heavy Metal - I'm including Progressive, Thrash, Death, Power, etc. in this...
25% Classic Rock
10% Alternative

I would have to summarize:

20% Classic Rock (Pink Floyd)
20% New Age (Jean Michael Jarre)
20% Classical (Mozart)
20% Rap (Eminem)
10% Broadway/Musical (Evita)
10% Stuff most of you never heard of LOL

In other words I like music in general. (cept maybe the heavy metal) Just about anything you can tap your foot too. I just know better than to sing along. Nobody wants that.

I probably would like some of the "heavier" music but it actually hurts my ears. I think it may be because for years my job required me to listen for subtle tones, usually with headphones. It's not the only thing that hurts my ears. But because of that it just sounds like noise to me. Loud painful noise. That's ok though, I just don't click on those links. LOL

Some of my younger friends are to blame for that. Yep, it's their fault. LOL

I have a buddy who wants to be a big rap star. He's opened for Ice T and some of the bigger names. He's tried desperately to get me to listen to rap, but the newer stuff just isn't for me. The "old school" stuff is fine though.

You know, you all aren't at all some nasty bunch that was my first initial impression.

A little understanding and give and take made things better.

Everything just got off on a bad foot between boards.

After reading some of Big Chief's posts here I think he is nice, kind and cuddly big chief.

And no I ain't sucking up.

Our evil plan is working! We have convinced Neriah we are nice people! muhahahaha!

Glad you think so Neriah, and glad you came over to check us out. Things got way out of hand initially, and things were said on both sides that shouldn't have been. I wish some of the folks on QSMB could get past that.

My husband actually gave me my appreciation for Eminem (he's younger so I guess that makes sense, lol.) Otherwise, most rap you can keep, lol!

Wow, this is HARD. Umm...

40% country (35% modern & 5% some classics like Pasty Cline)
20% current pop/R&B
10% 80's retro (definitely includes Men at Work, lol!)
10% rock (classic or indy, NOT punk or heavy metal screaming)
5% rap (mainly Eminem NOT gangsta)
5% 70's dance/pop
5% classical
5% Irish folk dance

Genesis and Floyd are tops on my list. I don't have time or the inclination to bore you all with everything I listen to. :)

Not saying I'm "well read" in a musically snooty way, I'm just lazy, and listen to anything "good". :)

I *will* say that NONE of what I want to listen to is heard on commercial radio (as much as I would like). Pink Floyd every single day is lame when half of the time it is "Another brick....".

Thank GOODNESS for iPods.

Who still listens to the radio??? :)

I usually listen to my music via a variety of headphones depending on genre. In the car, I don't think I've ever used the radio function of my tuner. I mean, what's the point? It sounds like trash even compared to FLAC or MP3. I have my entire music collection archived in FLAC at home and work (gotta have backups!). I use MP3/FLAC in my car and at work because it's just not practical to carry a record player everywhere I go.

I'll stop here because I don't want to go on a rant about how poorly music is mixed now. Dynamic range is dead; everything has to be LOUD.

EDIT: I'd parrot the comment about iPods except they don't make one that would allow me to keep all of my music on it at the same time... I want a 1TB iPod...

It is so hard to define oneself with music, as each day or part of the day it changes depending on your mood.

I can go through some of the following in a day, week, month.

Deep Purple, Maiden, Nightwish, AC/DC, many other metal bands, including some real out there stuff.
Classic rock from the 70's, 80's, Floyd, Supertramp, Skynard, etc
Sinatra and his ilk
Limited new stuff such as Eminem
Classical, Beethoven, Handel, Bach etc.
My darling wife who is a singer songwriter, pop kind of style as well as new age stuff.

It just really depends on my mood at the time as to what I listen to
