Send me his address via PM... I'll add some high-nic samplers in tobacco and mint to my contest Vermillion order and send them that way. -Magnus

My diabolical plan to destroy the maybe-Mormon Libertarian troublemaker has failed!!!

Sure, I can do that if you want..... -Magnus

I'm not Mormon. Why does everyone assume people who live in Utah are Mormon?

I knew that maybe-Mormon bit would *face palm* you... :D

I have no idea but everyone in Florida seems to think Utah and Idaho are just Mormon states. On one occasion a few years back I was at a BBQ where a bunch of the people got in this huge debate as to how if Utah and Idaho could be Mormon states then they should fight to have Florida Baptist. It was bizarre and terrifying. -Magnus

However, I will take your advice/spam/praise and purchase a couple bottles from Vermillion later this month. I want to see what all the fuss is about. :)

That's what I plan to do first day of July. I have opened my account in anticipation.

Their juice sure does look good. And the bottles look awesome. I never have enough bottles.

BTW I never realized there were that many Mormons. I thought it was just the ones that come to my door quite often. :)

Aww crap... Don't answer. I would rather be blissfully ignorant. If I know any more I'll over analyze. I'm just going to make sure I continue to use protected batts and call it a day.

If you plan on never doing any modding, you might get away with blissful ignorance. (Sorry I've lost track in this thread as to who mods, who doesn't, who is trying a bit) However, if you're going to mod, or use anything that uses off the shelf batteries, bad things, can happen too easily to ignore. I'm still in the process of learning about smaller battery issues, but I've spent many years working with large UPS systems, power converters and inverters. The one thing I can tell you for certain is the 'average' person's fears about electricity are backwards. Electric shock is dangerous, and can certainly kill you, but compared to the destruction when batteries or transformers overload, it should be the least of your worries.

Protected batteries are just a good starting point. You also need to understand the difference in how the various chemical compositions charge, which charger is right for which battery etc. Making your own mods also means needing to understand the capacity of your batteries and what kind of load you're putting them under.

Never used Battery information from Battery University but at a glance looks like a good resource, the battery info thread mentioned earlier and Battery ABCs thread here on ECF are great primers for mod related information.

Not trying to scare anyone, but when you start playing with batteries that aren't designed with the intent of being used close to a persons head, not understanding what can go wrong is a bad idea. Even cell phones have had some problems, and they're supposed to be designed with the thought that your phone dying is better than having it vent violently by your ear. I've seen what happens when people do things like plugging laser printers into UPSs and transformers that aren't rated to handle the load and protection circuits fail, I have a friend who had the misfortune to be in a small room when a power converter had it's transformer overload and spent the better part of a year and multiple skin grafts recovering from what should have according to all the doctors killed him on the spot. (Note that was a converter for a military RADAR, and while not really a large converter, probably bigger than anything in your house, and certainly bigger than anything PV related)

Halsey,

You're right. I should try to educate myself as much as possible re: batteries. I've never had a negative experience with batteries except for the occasional run of the mill AA leaking, but then again, I just don't have much experience with them above cell phones and Xbox controllers. When I purchased batteries for my box mod I did enough research to know I should at the very least use protected batteries and get an appropriate charger for them. I have enough experience with electricity and electrical shock to have a "healthy" fear of what it can do to the body, but I can't say I'm an expert.

I'm really sorry to hear about your friend. I hope he was/is able to make a full recovery.

The links that have been provided should offer a good starting point for research. My comment about being ignorant was well, ignorant. My point was simply that the more I know about something and the more choices I have available to me the less likely I am to actually pull the trigger and make a purchase. For better or worse, I tend to over think things. When it comes to items that can potentially maim or kill me, that's probably a good thing.
