Interesting thing happened and wanted to get some input. This isn't e-cig related in any way and is completely off topic (if there is such a thing in this thread).
I have a Sony 60" Bravia LCoS RPTV and for the last couple of years it has been intermittently "flickering". There's no rhyme or reason to it. It will happen if the TV has been on for 15 seconds or 3 hours. Sometimes it will last only only for a few seconds, others for minutes at a time. Finally I decided that "enough was enough" and since the TV is still under warranty I made a claim.
The repair guys were professional; They arrived at the agreed upon time. They sat down and watched the TV with me for about 30 minutes and, of course, the TV did not "flicker" during that time (Damn you "Technician's Syndrome!"). Not surprisingly, they said the TV would need to be taken to the shop so the problem could be diagnosed. Off to the repair shop the TV goes... There was much crying and sadness.
Fast forward 8 days...
I get a call from my wife that the repair shop wants to return the repaired TV. Wanting to make sure the TV was actually repaired and the problem not made worse, I left work early to welcome the TV with open arms and rejoice at its return.
The repair guy hooked the TV back up (correctly too) and I turn the TV on and it looks good. We chatted a while about what was repaired and after about 15 minutes of trouble-free television viewing bliss, he left.
The second his van's tires left my driveway the TV started to "flicker." Again, there was much crying and sadness.
While the set was at the shop, I spent quite a bit of time browsing AVSForum's thread on my particular TV. Apparently the flickering isn't all that uncommon and the fix is simple... Don't use "Power Save" mode. Remember this, I turned it off and the flicker immediately disappeared. Turned it back on and after a few minutes the flickering was back.
According to the technician they replaced one of the boards in the TV. The invoice lists a part number and its description is "FRC BC2 BOARD". I looked up the part number and sure enough, it's a Sony part number, it's not a board. It's a mount.
This didn't cost me any money out-of-pocket, but I'm a bit peeved that the problem wasn't fixed and I don't feel they were completely honest. I've only had the TV back since yesterday afternoon, but after implementing the fix I found online, the TV hasn't flickered once.
So... The question is, what do you think I should do?
- Leave well enough alone?
- Call the repair place again and tell them problem isn't fixed?
- Call the warranty place and tell them the repair company ripped them off?
- Leave a nasty review of said repair company online?
- Something else?
Yes, Madman, I know you would have dismantled and repaired the TV using nothing but a toothpicks and dental floss in less than 30 seconds...
