Nate, if it's a design issue with the TV, there's nothing the repair shop could do until and if Sony fixes the problem and releases a replacement control board for it. The "repair" likely involved nothing more than a full checkout of the TV according to a factory test plan/specs, and replacement of anything questionable (especially since it was a warranty repair).

That said, if they found no problems with the electronics, they should have told you so that you'd know to look elsewhere for the problem.

How exactly are you using the TV? Do you have it hooked directly to cable (using the tuner) or using an external cable box? Does it flicker only when using broadcast/cable signals or when feeding it video?

sounds like a set of bad caps on the power board Nate...look up the model number and add wont stop flickering on power save mode to the search query...likely you will find a diagram indicating which caps to replace although you have the knowledge to identify bad caps I do believe...I have seen the same problem on a few plasma and LCD TVs... the plasma ones would turn off and need to be reset tho...

I replaced the caps on the plasma ones for a friend...poof no more problems...

and You jest....I'm the one who enters the room and the TV quits malfunctioning out of fear...

I'd ask them why they weren't honest but first I'd ask them if they checked what you fixed and go from there.

After a bit more time with the TV it is still flickering. The repair place will be getting a call on Monday.

Off topic! Just popping in to say hi to everyone - hope you're all doing well - have missed the thread - zero chances of getting caught up so not even trying! Been MIA for a few weeks - ducking out again in a few days for some much needed vacay in the CO mountains and I'm so looking forward to that! Taking a few new mods with....will finally have some time to play with them See you all soon!
