If you're referring to Katiem-she used nic gum off & on for 6 yrs not the patch.

I still think her quit date should reflect that seeing as she sees fit to tell everyone they'renot quit until they are no longer using nicotine...just sayin.

Or even have two quit dates Quit Smoking: Quit Nicotine:

I never enjoyed smoking. I had to smoke.

I listen to people talk about how they loved smoking and I don't get it.

THIS. This is where we are lacking understanding between the groups in this QSMB discussion. The fact that people SMOKED for different reasons and therefore, people QUIT for different reasons. Some of the nicotine abstinent folks seem to want to lumpo everyone together - like we are all quitting because we hated being slaves to nicotine or SHOULD hate being slaves to nicotine. But what if you never felt a slave to nicotine?

I mean, doesn't stand to reason that someone who ENJOYED smoking is going to be quitting for a different reason than someone who HATED smoking? So, someone who hated being addicted to nicotine is going to have a whole differnt way of quitting smoking than someone who just hates the health effects of the smoke?

It just stands to reason that because you hated smoking, you would want to be free of EVERYTHING associated with it - including nicotine. I, on the other hand, enjoyed smoking and just wanted to stop exposing myself to smoke. I never felt a slave to nicotine. We both wanted to quit smoking, but for fundamentally different reasons. But if you ask a doctor, he would look at both of us and say, "As long as you're healthy and not smoking, it doesn't matter WHY you quit smoking or HOW you quit smoking, it just matters that you are no longer sucking smoke into your lungs 20 times a day." All doctors really care about, when it comes down to brass tacks, is the SMOKE.

I wish those members would understand that we don't all quit smoking for the same reason and the most important thing is that we quit inhaling smoke. Quitting nicotine is more of a personal thing, but not necessary to quit smoking. I mean, look at me - nearly 2 years smoke-free and no inclination to smoke cigarettes again. I'm happy and not smoking - why is that not enough for them? Why must I meet THEIR personal goal rather than my own? That is the most frustrating part.

(Sorry, Neriah - that wasn't all AT you, your post was just a spring board for my little rant.)

Because thats how I post-its mostly habit-when I post its usually main board-like the daily pledge thing or on the social-just for other not big deal sort of topics.
OK, got it. It just seemed to add more fuel to their fire that it was "out there," that's why I was wondering.

Agreed. And that would put her closer to 2009 wouldn't it? 8 years no smoking, 6 years nic junkie = 2 years quit. 2011 - 2 =2003?

Remember that game when you were young, where a sibling would waive a finger in front of your face and taunt, "But I'm not touching youuuuu..." It was a classic way to incite a reaction. The whole point was getting a rise out of you to get attention.

IGNORE IT, folks. Don't take the bait anymore. No matter what you say in rebuttle to the insults, you will have "lost" because they already got what they really wanted - a reaction. Take the high road. Seriously, try it for a while - THAT is a true win. Keep responding to idiocy and it just makes you the other idiot in the argument.
