You left out one option...addictive personality & with that comes being addicted to the site...the routine. I feel like my day is out of whack if I don't get time to pop in here.

I thought about this quite a bit myself.

I think support plays a big role in quitting anything addictive. Some people get their support from family and friends, some through the various "Anonymous" groups, and others through forums. I think it's admirable that many members at QSMB have been around for so long offering their support to new members who want to quit smoking, but I'm starting to wonder why... Here are a couple possibilities I came up with:

1. They quit using this support system and they want to PIF.
2. They are insecure in their own quit and still need the positive reinforcement others provide. Without said reinforcement, they will likely start smoking again.

I would like to think they are still there because of #1, but I can't help but feel due to some of the comments about the "changes" that have been made there that some of them fall under #2. I (obviously) can't speak for everyone, but if I had a successful quit going (let's say 1 year), I think it would drive me crazy to stay there and continue posting. Why? I don't want to continue exposing myself to the very activity I quit. If I do, I'm far more likely to fall of the wagon.

You're right. I couldn't see passed my own experience with addiction. When/if I ever lay down the PV, I'll probably stop participating here. Not that I don't like you guys. It's me, not you! :)

I might do the same, but I think there's little chance of that happening for me for a long time to come... I smoked for 40 years, I expect I'll vape for quite a few. :)

Besides, I'm really interested in where the technology is going, and, being a techie, I want to stay involved to see how it evolves.

And a good many of you people are pretty dang cool, too!

Err... okay embarrassing moment here... I went shopping with my mom on Mother's Day and we ended up in Target. She was looking for a plaque she had seen a few weeks earlier because she wanted to write down the saying on it so my sister could print her a copy of it for her to dress up in a pretty frame. We finally tracked down the plaque, and this is what it said. There was no attribution, so I couldn't say who said it first.
Google is insisting that the author is unknown.
:)

Fireworks .... and they are sometimes scary. I see them all summer cause there is a ballpark right in front of my house.

Imagine .. sitting home minding your own business and all of a sudden BOOOOM BAAAAAAAM FLASH POP

I cant tell you how many times I've almost jumped out of my skin. You can imagine the cats reaction. LOL

But last night at least I was expecting them. Just trying different avatars for fun. So far like the rainbow and fondue pot the best.

Yes Nate. This is what I think is happening. I'm can't be certain of everyone's motives. I like to think that most people just want to help others. However, one thing is sure. They really all are concerned for themselves falling off. That's why cigarettes are so awful. They keep talking about how the addiction is the huge demon. In my opinion, the forum feeds the addiction more than a hand to mouth action. Anything is going to remain difficult to overcome if you hold on to it like that.

I'm not worried one bit about it. I traded my cigs for this vaporizer. I'm not using the additives, and I'm not using nearly as much nicotine. HOW'S THAT ZERO NICOTINE GOING? I shout out, because someone here is doing it. I forget who. I'm willing to bet that it doesn't mean a thing different from anyone else. It was pretty easy for me to go from cigs down to 24mg down to 18. Not an ounce of withdrawal symptoms. Only time I felt weird was after bombarding myself with a whole pack in a day. That's over and I'm back to normal. It was so awful, I'll never do it again. I know now, that it really affects my system.

It stands to reason if you have to reaffirm your commitment to something each and every day, then somewhere within you is the fear that you will fail, and the temptation to give in. That little demon is always there, waiting to pounce on you in a weak moment. Is that freedom?

For us, seeing it brought up time and time again that we're only fooling ourselves, it's only natural for a little self-doubt to creep in. For me it was only for a split second, but definitely there. But I'm on to the little guy now, but he's back in his cage with extra strong locks. :)

Ok I'm now captain of the Irony police and it would be the irony of ironies if we were worried about affecting their quits and it turned out htey were affecting ours instead.

I'll do that thanks for the link.

I think more like tragedy if you let it get to that point. So don't. Please? -Magnus

I wholeheartedly agree I haven't noticed affecting my quit as yet I think I'll be ok.

For the rest of you you must post an SOS on this threade before.... no I'm kidding but yeah it does help if you talk to us here at ECF if you're feeling the urge to light up.

For the last week and half or so I had been contemplating lighting up again. Not because I was craving a cig, but because I haven't been feeling like myself at all. I was so depressed and anxious and I know that just isn't me. Instead I started taking vitamin D (10,000 IU) and St. John's Wort (900mg 3% standardized). I woke up today for the first time in nearly two weeks feeling "normal".

It is a tragedy, but I think that's what it's doing to me. I'm just not in the right frame of mind to deal with katiem and evelyn's hatefulness.

I am going to stay away from there for a little while and get my head back on track.

I'm not throwing away almost 7 months of being cigarette free now - not because of them.
