Someone should direct Diane over here so we can help her more easily without silly distractions.

My mom has COPD. She refuses to quit smoking. It's the one thing that makes her happy she says i was talking to her today. I mentioned ecigs. she said she was seeing adds for them. I actually said she should try them. I told ther some of the stuff i learned here. I think an ecig wwould be perfect for my mom, who doesnt care about the addiction, she LOVES smoking and will not give it up regardless if it kills her. She sounded really interested in them. She is very poor though. I want to know how much it costs to get started. Also, she is going to want it to be as close to smoking as possible, or she wont keep with it. I want to know...how much different does it feel?

If i can get my mom on this, she is 63 btw, i would be happy.

I think one major hangup is that we don't necessarily set quitting nicotine as a priority; we don't "have a plan". They see any use of nicotine as a continuing addiction and an endless temptation back to smoking.

They don't seem to fundamentally accept that nicotine is only one of a very complex set of dependancies in smoking. Nicotine is the addiction. By not eliminating it, we are still hopelessly addicted, and we can't see the "truth".

I had 3 yr of childhood or am I automatically disqualified from that due to quitting it early...

I dont want to sound abrasive, or uncaring here, but I probably will, becuase it needs said here.
After reading about that one persons aunt, dying of emphysema. They mentioned they is so heartbroken, and their aunt refuses to quite. At the end, they says "I hope you all keep your quite"....Understandable.
But, not once did they ever mention offering any help to their aunt, (someone who doesnt want to quite), anything past the CT. No mention of ANY nrt offered to help her, much less an e cig.
So just how self centered in your mentality do you have to be to watch a family member dying from smoking, knowing there ARE alternatives that could help, AT LEAST TRY, (just pick SOMETHING) but refuse to support or allow those, knowing they'll at least buy a little time, if not a LOT of time, or even save them. But no..lets just sit back and watch, and mourn, and stick to our "cold turkey or die" attitude.
I can appreciate that her story seems to already be written with a terrible ending, at least by the niece there...unfortunately, Im not buying it. At least get off your high horse, offer up some alternatives, grab that eraser, and work on re-writing the next couple chapters. If that means picking up every patch, gum, inhaler, ecig, mod, dumping nic in her wheaties, and hiding her lighters..DO SOMETHING! ( but keep your quit)
It aint over till its over...at least over here.
I better stop there...too much rant. Lord be with that aunt.

edit: I take that back... not abrasive, more "tough" love-ish.

Id love nothing more than to send out a care package, and find a post over there someday that the recipient is now tobacco free thanks to ol' chiefy...just saying. But I got that pif bug these days...just lookin for a target..just sayin

Watching your mother die from COPD is a horrible thing to experience. I feel really, really bad for her. I don't have a lot of money but I would scrape together what I have and order her mom an EGO kit...but that would make me look like a "pusher" or supplier. I really feel bad for Diane...and it just goes to show that we are all people sharing the same types of pain. I really wish some of those folks would see that.

This is a good point. My mom refused to quit smoking cigarettes. She would use the e-cigarette until she felt better and then start smoking again. One thing the e-cigarette did help with was her going to the hospital when she got bad. She used to refuse to go because they wouldn't let her smoke....when she got her e-cigarette the doctors were fine with her using it in her room so she would go to the hospital.

I think some of my clients couldn't afford it or maintain doing it. Some live on 89 bucks a month for personal things. I work with people who are functional quads and others have serious MI. I don't know how they could vape.
