Is there something we should know about Magnus? Beyond the failed Canada ISP pay-per-bandwidth, I haven't heard of anything else in the works.
The 2009 monitoring expansion in concert with Harper's promised Lawful Access Initiative in particular. Bills C-50, 51, and 52 before the Parliament was dissolved but listed as top agenda items yet again. And I think under the guise of fighting Silk Road-like systems they might just get it through this go about. -Magnus
One more attempt by govt to reign in / exert power over one of the systems enabling people to freely communicate Ideas,thoughts,opinions,and commerce freely without much fear of repercussions...I'm beginning to be concerned that a good portion of internet communications/sales will have to go underground (so to speak) in order to protect peoples identities/safety sooner or later...not paranoia, simply a concern...things like Tor would not be necessary if power hungry fools would leave well enough alone... they don't realize the damage they are doing nor that they themselves may need such a resource sooner or later...

Some days I can't tell what would be better: to be a Libertarian or an ultra Liberal. Sometimes they are fighting for the same things, just in vastly different ways, and for completely different reasons.
EDIT: please understand I'm not trying to make a political statement or steer the discussion in that direction, just that when gov't regulations get thrown into the mix (whether in the states or up north) it makes me wonder....

Meh... Over that rant hrs ago...just getting disturbing thats all...they were trying much the same thing here...just well hidden in the 1000s of pages...
I was thinking more in general, since both stances are appealing in some ways. Would love the gov't to not have so much power/control, but at the same time I don't trust the private sector to do the right thing for anybody other than their shareholders (by and large, we all know a few good biz out there). Ye Gods I'm whining again....

I think bill C-51 and 52 didn't pass but softened up the introduction and final passing of Bill C-36 which comes into effect about now. Bill C36 - Health Canada's New Powers Put Canadians at Risk brings much antagonism to Canadians where HC can search and sieze anything from anyone with no oversight and no legal recourse from those who have had goods confiscated. This is the big fear in the Canadian vaping community at this time, especially from the suppliers. Health Canada doesn't have any legal basis to sieze e-cigarette hardware or juice as there is no actual law against the use of, but HC will do whatever they want until court action sets the record straight.
The Internet rules New Canadian laws would kill all internet privacy | National Union of Public and General Employees is probably aimed at giving police task forces tools against internet predators, kiddie porn and to get at file sharing uploaders. Canada has been under fire from other countries for being too lax on internet laws and being a haven for peer-to-peer shared pirated movies and digital songs.
I don't know, maybe there is something else coming at us too - we are really just living a mushroom existance as citizens and only working off best guesses.

It's a little quiet at the moment... but I have faith that it will pick up again. It's the beginning of summer, kids just out of school, vacations, etc...
When I quit smoking, the last couple of attempts at cold turkey, I ate. So yeah, Eat The Quit would be applicable.
I'm curious why that discussion about Beth's "Brad comment" suddenly turned into an e-cig conversation.... It had no reason to go down that road, I'm at a loss as to why it even came up. If nothing about e-cigs had been said, the issue at hand (the post and blowback about it) could be resolved without dragging anyone else into it or flaming (or ruffling the feathers of) other people.

No, I get that. They resolved that and looked like everything was fine. Then they started making the assumption that she was going to try an e-cig or some nonsense. It's that type of thing that got this whole thing started. I was hoping that dragging other BS into a group or a thread that wasn't part of the discussion was OBE (overcome by events) and we had all moved forward.
