I'm glad they've found a place to vent unburdened by the restrictions of the regular Quitistas board, but be warned - it's just a matter of time now before one of them calls somebody a "doo doo head."
The more I watch them run unfettered like lapdogs confined too long to Louis Vuitton carriers, and able to speak freely, the more I'm convinced that some of them just need to split from the Quitista board and set up
shop on their own.
Fred, whatever people on either "side" may think of him, doesn't appear to have a real money-maker on his hands with that board, I kind of doubt he ever intended to do that.
I have no idea of his personal feelings, my speculation is that he is neither particularly excited about the new technologies nor especially fervent in his beliefs in adhering to "tradition" and even if the latter were the case, it wouldn't be very prudent for him to host a fundamentalist belief-based forum under his government name.
The toothpaste cannot be put back in the tube. If it weren't e-cigarettes, it would be some other development that would, sooner or later, present a direct conflict with the the core beliefs of the Alt Ordnung. (and this would be the case whether those beliefs are in any way seeded, nourished or cultivated by a particular business interest. Companies, especially large ones in "key industries" have a very special status in some cultures, and belief is belief, regardless of who authors or inspires its doctrines)
The best possible outcome, in my opinion, would be for "Meme Lady" and her coterie of core devout, to arrive at that same conclusion, and establish a "PureQuit" community that is able to be exactly that, without being essentially ordered to compromise their beliefs and pay lip service to inclusion of or civility toward groups or individuals who very simply, do not share those beliefs and are not seeking instruction in them.
They could openly advertise themselves as exactly what they are, and make their presence known so that any and all who were so inclined could go there and join them.
That would also have the side effect of making it much easier for the Good Deed Posse, who are currently obliged to spend more energy fending off believers than making information available to people who need it, and offering support to those who wander in there seeking to learn more about their options, and are inclined to a more prosaic, fact-based process.
Of course, the "chiste" is that we don't know anybody who could gently suggest or lead them toward that green pasture, and I'm not sure it would occur to them without some kind of guidance, due to the nature of belief and of human nature!
