Quick question for the coders here. Anyone good with CSS? Working on a new website that I think some of the DIY peeps may like. I know the web is a wonderful source of information, but I don't really have the time to try to sift through it all. I'm looking for one really good place for info on the subject.

don't look at me Nate ...but we have some in this thread...and one lurking mod with some skills I do believe...coders that is...don't know about the CSS

I'm just an amatuer geek and a professional student of life...the whole world facinates me...just only one part of it at a time...

Currently I'm stuck firmly in the realm of the desktop. I've done quite a bit of PHP, but that has all been "behind the scenes" stuff. By "done" I mean "googled my way to an answer." I know just enough to be dangerous.

As far as making anything look "pretty" it would likely end with me slapping lipstick on a pig and calling it a day. GUI design is not one of my strengths.

I can modify CSS. I don't know it well enough to do it from scratch.

Well...Problem solved...I am no programmer...I make things and then figure out what hidden process in my head created the thing and how it meant it to work...DON'T ASK HOW... I am a backwards kind of guy...I just know it works for me so I don't knock it...and don't accuse me of stealing from our future ...YET....

W3 schools is a great resource. W3Schools Online Web Tutorials

I'm not an expert in CSS but I'm trying to become one. The guy I work with is an expert. When he gets in this morning, I'll ask him for another.

I knew about W3, but since my experience is thin I wasn't sure if it was if it was any good.

Thank you.

So I put together a contest framework that I think might satisfy all of my goals...

--Gets folks into the Legislative News forum
--Gets folks to learn where we came from, where we are today, what to expect in the future
--Gets folks to learn who we are fighting and why
--Gets folks to learn what CASAA is and where it came from
--Encourages them to continue digging and learning

Now my only question is whether anyone will even bother to enter!

Nate if you can do PHP, there is nothing CSS can throw at you that will not bounce happily on your nose.

If you just want a cheat sheet, or to make a basic style sheet, google "online css generator"

I'm saying google not to be impolite, but because there are so many of them, I don't know which one you might like the best, and neither will you, till you click them!

If there is a particular thing you want to do, maybe tell the thing? And people can tell you if it's something that CSS can do, or if you'll need javascript or some arcane confusing other thing that I don't understand at all, but you will understand just fine, because you have climbed the fearsome mountain that is PHP.

So here are the questions for the contest, although not exactly in final form...

1) What is the most important court case related to electronic cigarettes, and what was the decision?
2) How are electronic cigarettes going to be regulated in the future?
3) Who are we fighting and where does their funding come from?
4) What is CASAA and how was it formed?
5) What can we do to help?

I'm thinking instead of a one-time contest I wanted it to be an ongoing contest because I want people to keep learning more, and I want to keep getting new people to participate and start becoming aware of these things. So rather than have one big set of prizes I was thinking of one prize every two weeks. And I was thinking that people could enter more than once, so they have motivation to continue learning more and improving their answers.

So that brings me to my first question for you folks...
Do you guys think anyone would even bother with all of this for $50 worth of juice?

That's a great idea DC! And yes, I think people would do it, even for $50! :thumb:

The only real downside would be the possibility of people entering that already know the answers, since you want to primarily target it to new folks that would need to look them up. I prefer to think most would be honest, however.

My plan was to restrict the contest to people who...
--Registered on this site since (January?) and
--Have never posted in the Legislative News forum

I'd be happy to get any feedback or thoughts on that idea as well.
So feel free to tell me what is stupid, or what could be better.

Thank you, lolady. I know C# and PHP is similar enough that I can stumble my way through it. However, where I work programs in VB :)confused:) so I have very little opportunity to keep my C# skills up to date and forgive the pun, sharp.

My biggest issue isn't the programming or learning CSS. No... It's the making things look nice. I'm afraid learning CSS isn't going to help me there.
