Really Sallie they're more scared of you...well maybe w the exception of funnel webs in AU...those are some REALLY aggressive MEAN things8-o...they actually go out of their way to bite people...My buddy from Australia has a habit of checking his shirts and shoes before putting them on...for good reason...

If they were so damned scared of me madman they wouldn't crawl on me! Ugh, I almost fainted from the thought.

We saw an incredible spider on one of the pilings next to the dock last week on vacation. I even took a picture of it. :p I think the piling was its home. We saw it there several days in a row. Needless to say we never tied the boat up four ways, no way was I getting near that sucker! I'll post a picture once I can get it off my husband's computer.

Garden spider is pretty generic... Like this? Argiope aurantia

These were especially prolific near my apartment in Vista.

There... I fixed that for you.

Thanks?

You should see what they do when you spook them. It's hard to describe. They undulate the web back and forth in an effort to make themselves look bigger or something. They're one of the bigger spiders we have here in the states. Females can grow to over an inch (not including legs, of course). The only spiders I have seen out "in the wild" that are larger are tarantulas.

Okay, I have to go lie down now...

The garden spider I posted a pic of spins large webs as well, but they are highly visible because they add stabilimentum. I like spiders, but do not like walking through their webs. I'm sure spiders don't like it either.
