looks like she totally missed the point of ecigs and that someone sold it to her as a quit smoking device (meaning quit nicotine adiction) rather than a smoking alternative, or that someone told her ecigs are for quitting smoking. And she also seemed to not understand that there's numerous known carcinogens in tobacco smoke Vs. zero known carcinogens in ecigs.

I really wish people (meaning the govt and media) would understand that there's a difference between quitting smoking and quitting nicotine.

I smell the FDA and the beginning of their dis-information campaign here. Remember the email memo that was leaked. Assuming that it was "real," this is the sort of thing that the FDA said they were going to do beginning yesterday. If this isn't FDA propaganda, it sure is a weird coincidence. The FDA can only talk about ecigs as a stop smoking device to try to legitimize their wish to regulate it.

We think that this seems mindless because it tries to create a "reality" about ecigs that is so far from what we know as to be funny. Think about the majority of people who know nothing about ecigs. They will now remember the message of this because they saw it on a "Special Report" on the News!

This is the beginning of what we expected yesterday, but just in a different form first. First comes propaganda, to sway the majority opinion, and then comes the real oppression (and nobody cares thanks to the dis-information they have been spoon fed).

What rankles me most, though, is the notion that any acceptable alternative to tobacco cigarettes must involve quitting. Did you hear that over and over? The e-cig won't help you quit! So? Lots of smokers don't want to quit; they want a healthier way to obtain a drug they enjoy or find beneficial in their everyday life. What's wrong with that? Nothing. But the anti's will likely never come around to approving a lifetime addiction to recreational nicotine use.

Plus the anti's have almost successfully stereotyped us smokers as social losers with no willpower of our own. Hence, they feel they must do the "right thing" for us. F*ckers! Sorry, but stuff like this really gets under my skin.

You can tell she's all for this, she's being interviewed on WENY, for heaven's sake, and probably has some of that Air Freshener juice in that thing. I didn't like that either. What a terrible example for everybody to see. Hard to hear at the end, she smokes 4 or 5 cigarettes? And that little light on the end even resembles a lit cigarette, doesn't it...very sweet. Seriously, I hope they didn't send that to UTube.

I hear ya!

Some people just don't get it. I've heard the riot act from just about every do-gooder on the planet, I think I'm a target sometimes.

I got the nastiest look from some lady in her SUV the other day. I was smoking my M401 (my "public" ecig of choice, so I don't look like I'm trying to inhale a pen) in MY OWN car the other day, at a traffic light. My wife was driving, I was in the passenger seat. I had the window opened a crack, and I was puffing away. I noticed in my peripheral to my right, this lady kept inching her car forward, as if to get my attention. Finally, I look over at her, and she glances back at my kids in the back seat, then back at me, then back at my kids, and gave me the nastiest, disapproving head shake I've had since grade school.

LOL. Apparently she thought my e-cig was real. The light turned green and she sped off before I could mimic putting my "cigarette" out on my forhead, but damn, I wish I had the chance.

Anyway, my point is, this anti just HAD to make it known to me that she seriously disapproved of my smoking in MY car with MY kids. And no, of course I did not smoke in my car with my kids. Nor did I smoke around my children (we used to actually have a "smoking room").

I guess some people just define their own character by the judgments they pass on others. Kinda sad for them honestly.

Even as a nonsmoker, nonsmokers irk me.

Well I also wrote the reporter, and her boss. T-Bob, I am impressed, I did not want to slap my monitor after reading your post, not very negative at all, I am proud of you. (smiles) Here is my response, hope I speak well for all of us, I tried to keep the emotions to a minimum.

Greetings Katherine, My name is John Coppers, I just read your story on the electronic cigarette. With all due respect I have several concerns with your report, I would like to address them here. If you don't mind I would like to copy the parts of your story I have issues with along with my response/concern;

(1) "But, electronic cigarettes are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration." *response* Neither are real cigarettes.

(2) "They’re also not considered legitimate smoking cessation devices by the World Health Organization, but distributors say they're safer than real cigarettes." *response* Responsible marketing companies do not market them as cessation devices, they are a safer alternative to regular smoking for a number of reasons.

(3) "Smoking cessation expert Jennifer Rodriguez disagrees." *response* What qualifies her as a cessation expert?

(4) "We don't know how it could be safer,” she said, “There is a vaporized delivery system that we aren't really sure what's in it, we don't know what chemicals are in it."
*response* We know EXACTLY what chemicals are in it, they are propylene glycol, distilled water, and nicotine, however they can be purchased and used without nicotine. I may also add that Nicotine is found in vegetables and other foods, the other chemicals have found to be safe by the very FDA that was mentioned earlier.

(5) "It may reinforce going back to smoking regular cigarettes,” she said, “And for someone who has never smoked it may be a gateway for smoking a real cigarette." *response* MAY reinforce?? Does she have actual facts to support this statement?? As far as a gateway to smoking that is just stupid, the device costs over $100.00, as reported by you. That's a lot to spend for someone who does not smoke. In my opinion MS. Rodriguez is someone who truly wants people to quit smoking, however in her zeal to achieve this goal will vilify anything smoking related. A true expert has her facts straight and speaks from facts, not emotions.

(6) "It took Paula about ten minutes to put the electronic cigarette together before she could start puffing on it." *response* That's a hard one to fathom, it takes me under 10 seconds. Maybe the person who sold it to her should have spent some time teaching her how to use it?

(7) Distributors say it gives the physical sensation of real inhaled tobacco smoke. But for an addicted smoker, is that really the case? “It tastes like someone sprayed an air freshener and I had my mouth open,” Paula said, “It definitely has a chemical taste.” Distributors say it gives the physical sensation of real inhaled tobacco smoke. *response* I cant speak for her, I have no problem withe flavor of mine, I find it much better than the "dirty ashtray" I used to smell like.

On a personal note, I live in California. I read about your article online and read it. I got my electronic cigarette in January as a way to cut down on cigarettes. After one day I went from smoking 1 ½ to 2 packs a day to not smoking at all. Furthermore I have absolutely no desire to pick up a real cigarette, in fact I find the smell of them repulsive.

I would think that as you are obviously a person who is concerned with health that you would at least report on this device objectively, that is the job you were hired to do after all. I have diabetes and my doctor has been telling me I needed to quit smoking for years, I am in better health than I have been in for years, and that is a direct result of this product. If you have never smoked, as I doubt you have, you have no idea how hard it is to quit.

This device has done what the patch, gum, and cold turkey have not been able to do, I am a non-smoker. As I said earlier this device was not marketed to me as a way to quit smoking, but it did just that.

If I can be of further assistance or you would like to get the opinion of someone who has had their life changed by this device feel free to contact me.

1st some of the letters that I read here were written so eloquently that it might actually make them go back and do some more research.

2nd of coarse she looks like a "dork" she dosn't know how to hold it, puff it, inhale it. BTW she didn't know how to do those things with a real cig either. Looks to me like she's a weekend smoker who dosn't need to be doing reviews on a product that has changed many lives including my own...

All I could do was laugh, it was that or either get mad and or cry and that does me no good, or accomplishes anything.
Paula had a negative attitude about it from the very beginning. I feel they purposely went out and found someone who would show the kind of bias they wanted to report. That is what all of the media does these days.
It is no longer reporting the news it is making the news.
When I listen, watch or read the news, I want to hear both sides of the story.

LOL! I love that they went to the bar and it was dead empty. The bartender said nobody was complaining. Wonder why?

Lu, can we move this to the Outside section, because this is more humor than it is news. J/k
