E-cigarettes become the most popular UK 'quitting aid'
with 1.3 million users

According to the latest available figures, over 25 per cent of attempts to stop smoking in the UK are now supported by e-cigarettes, overtaking longstanding cessation aids such as throat sprays, patches and nicotine gum.

Wells Fargo predict that their use could overtake conventional cigarettes within a decade, a public-health success story in the making at no cost to the taxpayer.

No wonder control obsessed, progs hate PV's so much - they aren't blessed by the government gods.

Hi sbdivemaster ... Great signature

I'm confident that history will judge e-cigarettes to be as beneficial for public health as childhood vaccines, antibiotics, condoms, pasteurization, and sewage/water treatment.

Another great "sound-byte" phrase to be networked
and included in comments in articles.

For the benefit of new members ...

The pharmaceutical companies hate e-cigarettes with a passion
and are throwing tons of money against our movement ... all around the world.
Why ??
Well, they have BILLIONS of dollars in future profits at risk.
It's not just their patches, gums, lozenges, and of course their poison pills.
It's the BILLIONS of dollars they will loose because e-smoking doesn't cause cancer
and other health issues.

Oh, by the way ...
The FDA isn't in place to protect your health.
They are in place to protect their employer's profits ... Big Pharma

A public-health success story in the making at no cost to the taxpayer. I like that except................It is at great cost to the government. For every pack you don't smoke it cost local, state, and federal government $4.00 or more. Do you think they really want you to quit.

Kind of like what's going on with Hybrid car owners (I have two). We are not using enough gas (ie. generating enough road taxes) so in some states you pay a one time a year tax to make up for the road taxes they lose.

The OC
Pack of Cigarettes(national average)
$5.95

1 pack/day smoker spends
$178.50/month
$2,165.80/yr

I know the figure is higher, but let's just say 1 million Vapers...

That's
$2,165,800,000/yr

with a $1.01 tax per pack(17%), that means we're costing the FEDERAL government:
$368,186,000/yr

If you ever have any questions about why the FDA would want to regulate eCigarettes... there's your reason.

with an average $1.51 tax per pack(25%), that means we're costing STATE governments:
$541,450,000/yr

Motivation is easy to find... follow the money.

Gas taxes are supposed to be to pay for road use, not pollution. Hybrids still use the roads, but gasoline use is no longer an indicator of HOW MUCH, compared to non-hybrids. Low-energy households that still use utilities still use the delivery systems which require maintenance.

Vapers do NOT still use the hospitals, street sweepers, air-conditioning scrubbers, etc that continuing smokers use.

(Of course, that means we WILL actually use MORE because we'll live longer and die slower, but since the ANTZ believe the lies about us costing more, we should not fight that misperception, IMO)

On the subject of added yearly tax for owning a hybrid auto.

I remember many years ago ... when living in Maryland
tbe local utility company charged an added monthly penalty
to all residents with heat pumps.

I called complaining and they said heat pumps lower utility bills.
If I didn't like it ... I could find another utility company.

It's not just Hybrids, all cars get better fuel mileage than they did just a few years ago. This has reduced the tax income on all vehicles. We were told to "Save Gas", "Turn your thermostats back", "Quit Smoking" but when we do it the results aren't favorable to agencies whose livelihoods depend on that cash. How many times have you heard a government agency say "Well, I guess we'll have to do with less".

Regardless of what regulations come to pass, I will be 'alright', you Petrodus will be 'alright' - I dont use nicotine, my concern is for the people 'Not yet vapers'-not for me.

Do you really think vapers in 5 years time will be getting it easy-like we did ?
Vaping has not only hurt bigT, BigP, the AnTZ, the WHO, the FDA, the Federal Reserve, the Pensions Endowment funds, Cancer Charities, Investors, etc etc-these people stand to lose lots and lots of Dollar if this is allowed to continue.

That money will have to be retained-by hook or by crook

In a nutshell Ania-yes
This is the criteria, the ONLY criteria used by them to garner these 'heroic' figures
Quote from the NHS (National Health Service)::

"Successful Quitters
Where ‘successful quitters’ are mentioned in this report, this refers to those people who successfully quit at the four-week follow-up. A client is counted as a ‘self-reported 4-week quitter’ if when assessed 4 weeks after the designated quit date, they declare that they have not smoked, even a single puff on a cigarette, in the past two weeks.
This information is collected on NHS Stop Smoking returns in line with requirements from the Department of Health (DH)
."
