Survey finds 73% of General Practitioners (GPs) in UK are unaware of tobacco harm reduction and 65% dont know much about e-cigarettes, but that 68% of GPs would prescribe e-cigarettes if they were approved by MHRA (similar to the FDA in the US).
Majority Of UK GPs Would Prescribe E-Cigarettes, If They Were Regulated
The survey (conducted by BAT's Nicoventures) also found that 44% of UK smokers would use e-cigarettes if they were prescribed by their physician.
What I find interesting about these survey's findings is that many/most GPs and smokers in the UK rely heavily on official government endorsements. Can't imagine the numbers would be as high in the US, where people tend to think for themselves (instead of relying on official government endorsements).
Regardless, things will really get interesting after just one health agency in just one country officially approves an e-cigarette brand as a "smoking cessation aid", as that will convince many/most smokers, doctors, and members of the public to believe that MOST or ALL e-cigarettes are effective smoking cessation aids. That will also greatly increase sales of all e-cigarette products (including the other 99% of brands that aren't approved as smoking cessation aids).
