E-Cigarettes Deliver Little or No Nicotine, Study Finds

A small study conducted at Virginia Commonwealth University concluded that e-cigarettes failed to deliver on their promise of providing a dose of vaporized nicotine with every puff, CNN reported Feb. 8.
Sixteen volunteers were given two popular brands of e-cigarettes to use; the tobacco-free devices use a battery to heat a liquid containing nicotine, which users then inhale.
However, "Ten puffs from either of these electronic cigarettes with a 16-mg nicotine cartridge delivered little to no nicotine," according to the study led by researcher Thomas Eissenberg of the university's Institute for Drug and Alcohol Studies, who added: "They are as effective at nicotine delivery as puffing on an unlit cigarette."
The study, funded by the National Cancer Institute, will be published in the British Medical Journal.

I didn't click the article... but from what I got out of the summary is that they gave 16 volunteers an ecig and they said they weren't getting nicotine? Based off what? They could 'feel' nicotine? If they were smokers, they probably just didn't get the feeling from smoking because they are missing about 4700 other chems.

someone should email him and ask for his study information.. Overview

However, if this new research is accurate, then the main health concern associated with electronic cigarettes is actually much less of a concern than previously thought. If electronic cigarettes do not deliver much nicotine, then the problems associated with long-term exposure to, and dependence to, nicotine are ameliorated and no longer of concern.

In other words, if this research is accurate (and generalizable), then electronic cigarettes may not only be a safer alternative to smoking, they might actually be a safe alternative.

While I think this research demonstrates that at least two brands of electronic cigarettes do not appear to deliver much nicotine, these results conflict with some other laboratory findings, such as the finding that nicotine is present as 1.5% of the components in the vapor of inLife's Regal electronic cigarettes.

Thus, I do not think it is appropriate to conclude that all electronic cigarettes fail to deliver any nicotine.

click on read the rest of the story.. it goes on to saying that only 2 brands where tested in the study.. and that other places have found that others do give nicotine http://tobaccoanalysis.blogspot.com/

here is a bit about how it was done.. guess blood tests after use.. http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00932295

but if you see the part that says 10 puffs.. i consider a puff to be fill your mouth and blow it out.. inhale is not stated in the study.

From what I have read....the nicotine is drastically reduced when compared to a real cig. However...I would not say there is little or no nic. I would be completely stressed out if this was true. This study says we are getting about a tenth of what a real cig gives. And that is not necessarily a bad thing since it reduces the addiction.

You know what is really sad about this whole thing? The tobacco/smoking arena is so filled with crooked science, crooked politicians, crooked CEOs, etc. I don't trust a thing I read anymore. Everyone is coming at these studies with a preconceived notion. The FDA is going to find something wrong with E-cigs even if they have to make it up. And any entity that supposedly does "pure" science and also receives governement grants is also tainted. There is a status quo that must be maintained at any cost....keep people smoking, paying huge taxes and serving the purpose of the "bad guy" for political purposes.

Honestly...I have a hard time believing anything I read on smoking anymore. Nobody is telling the truth...
