Just saw this in an email was going to post but thanks for posting
Mixed but mostly good because of our "Just Julie" (CASAA) statements.
"Woessner speculates state lawmakers are trying to tax e-cigarettes to recoup dipping
tobacco tax revenue and says theres often ill-considered legislation at the local level, too."
This is truly ill-considered but only if you think the FDA is 'here to help'.
If their purpose were to reduce harm from smoking, then you don't tax something that would fulfill that purpose.
You take the tax revenue hit and be thankful that some people have quit or reduced their smoking. Taxing ecigs would be like punishing ex-smokers
even more than they were punished as smokers! They should be rewarded, not burdened by taxes or regulations. And it isn't just the ex-smokers that you would have helped but their families, friends, co-workers and any passers-by.
Also an estimate of jobs that could be affected with an adverse FDA ruling:
"Phil Daman, president of the Smoke-Free Alternatives Trade Association, an e-cigarette industry group, says the group often coordinates opposition to well intended but inappropriate regulations.
Daman estimates the e-cigarette industry has created 60,000 jobs across the United States.
I think we will begin to see more thoughtful regulation ... rather than a reaction to fear, says Daman, also an attorney at Daman and Associates."
