A link came across on facebook to a news report put up on the wishtv website.

E-cigarettes take focus on annual ‘Smokeout’ day | WISH-TV

The funniest thing I found on there was one of the things listed to help you quit at the bottom

Consider using medication to help you quit. There are prescriptions and over-the-counter medications that can help you deal with withdrawal symptoms or even help to reduce the urge to smoke. You’ll want to talk to your doctor first, but some medicine could help.

Is it me or that their answer for everything? I get the feeling what will be discussed is mostly the cigalikes.

Since most stop smoking sessions are sponsored by pharmaceutical companies and led by people paid by same or health departments and associations who get funding by pharma, of course, they're going to be pushers of pharma's products.

There's a very large "sales force" out there for pharma's ineffective quick smoking stuff!.......Bet they directly or indirectly employ as many people or more than our equally ineffective government. Ha!

we're a pill pushing society..I've actually been written up for bringing in, using wholistic tried and trues and then they were later adopted as policy (when working in a hospital).

but Smoke out Day, Oh I remember those, when I 'smoke any how with an attitude even *lol* very ineffective for the hard core smoker.

but I think we'll see e cigs/PV's an a viable option to not smoking soon (hoping)

I had to go see my doc yesterday flu, and this time last year it was double lobar pneumonia..so she's and I am glad I quit.

I seriously doubt that the number of high school students that use ecigs has tripled. And if it has it probably went from 6 kids nationwide to 9 lol. They don't tell you the number becaause it's probably really low. I see so much conflicting info on the internet now about vaping. BT and BP lie and try to make vaping look just as bad as smoking because they want them to get on the patches, gum, and stuff like that because that's what makes them money. Vaping doesn't make them any money so even if it really is better for you they'll lie and make it look bad by talking about high school students vaping. Kinda sucks that this is the capitalist society that we live in today.

Ginny unfortunately you are right. They want pills to be the answer to everything in society. My mom has to be on strong pain meds because of pains she has in her back and many other parts of her body. It is pretty much her whole body. Over the years they kept giving her pain meds and she just built up tolerances to them. They had her on morphine tablets for a while actually. Which did actually help some. But then the doctor who put her on them decided to just take her off them cold turkey. Recently they tried prescribing her Vicodin but those don't really do anything for her pain. The doctors give you the pills then suddenly they want to take them away or call you a pill popper or some crap. Our society makes me sick. Here with cigarettes we finally have a real solution to quitting smoking but instead of trying to embrace it and help people, those that should be helping the people only want to make money. What big tobacco does doesn't surprise me. I would expect them to act how they do. But the pharmaceutical companies make me sick. They pretend they want to help with various problems. Whether it is smoking, cancer or whatever but instead of actually trying to actually help their biggest concern is how to make the most money. Greedy %#^$&$%s every one of them. It is why I don't go to seminars like that one listed here. I know what they are actually about.

You can see my really long winded comment I left on there. lol. I pointed out that many of these teens seen vaping would likely be smoking if it wasn't vapes. Which is probably true.

i had patches on, chewing gum, and was still smoking last time i tried to quit. with vaping, it's been 6-7 days since last time i had an analog. i don't know about the pill pushers, but vaping just works for me. i wonder if any of them are willing to start smoking just to see if their suggested method will work for them.

It also depends on how heavy of a smoker is and how longed they smoked. I smoked for 14 years. I was a half a pack a day smoker usually. Though I had to control myself to not smoke more then that. When I was really stressed I could easily go through a pack in less then a day. Hell I remember once when I was like 19 i think, I was really upset and stressed, i smoked 2 packs in the period of about 4-6 hours. I once tried the gum. Just to get me through a work day. I was 19 at the time for that as well. A co-worker had some and gave me one. I spit it right out. Nasty as hell. Nastier then even the cheapest analog. lol. I didn't bother to try the patches because I just knew it wouldn't work and no way was I going to try chantex. I knew better. The thing is also I really didn't want to give up nicotine and even now I don't want to. I need my nicotine. I started cause of stress. I still need it cause of stress. But this way at least I am getting nicotine without all them extra harmful chemicals and it doesn't taste bad either. I tried an analog a few weeks after I quit them. I couldn't stand the taste anymore. I did mark that date down though as the one for my sig on here though. I can't put down i have been smoke free such and such days if I caved and smoked one day. lol.

Medications have their place in society and prescribed treatments. I tried the meds route a few times, didn't get me to stop smoking and didn't have terrible side effects for ME. Considering I was in High School and College in the late '60's and early '70's a few meds had little effect, or side effect.
