OK, I was unable to resist... I got one of these kits.
First off, this appears to be a coordinated and funded "test market" campaign. I suspect the folks at xHale were not getting the return they wanted from mall kiosks (which, based on their web site, was where their main business was at) and that people are onto the "subscription" rip-off model.
So, I noticed about two weeks ago when I went into the local 7-Eleven (in Fremont) - where I used to buy analogs along with my refill of diet Coke - a BIG poster in the window advertising "e-Cigarettes! No Smoke! No Tar! Low as $14.95 a carton!" with a graphic of an e-cig unit that looked a bit like the Blu externally. I was a little startled, and kind of felt pleased... as others have noted, "mainstreaming" vaping
could go a long way towards keeping the busy-bodies off the ban'd wagon. Provided the product was any good and people didn't feel ripped off.
I went inside, and they didn't have them in yet - just a pile of brocures. These were not as slick as the window sign; just made on a copy machine. They were very much marketing tools, containing little more info than the sign although it took two pages to say the same thing. If you look on the main page of their
website, you get the gist of what they are saying. Note the text in red - this blurb is on all their packaging; someone is clearly trying to cover their butts legally speaking.
Today I wandered back in and saw the counter display - nicely put together plexiglas thing with logos and such, and a dozen slots for stock. They offered three types of "starter kits" for $19.95, which all appear to be the same thing - two branded as "e-Cigarettes" and one as an "e-Hookah". It looked like the same hardware in all of them; just different flavor carts ("tobacco", "menthol", and "vanilla").
Again the CYA: The 7-Eleven lady said that the sales rep was quite clear that the "e-Hookah" and "e-Cigarette" carts should not be used with each other, even though the hardware was obviously identical...
but the "e-Hookah" cart is non-nicotine vanilla flavor, and very specifically says on the box "no nicotine". I suspect if vaping nicotine were banned, they'd just relabel all their stock with "e-Hookah" and sell out their non-nicotine vanilla.
She also mentioned that they are selling like hotcakes; they had the counter display for only a week and they had to call the rep to refill it twice. Unadvertised, but visible on the shelf behind the main logo on top were some items that looked like wall chargers.
So, I got a menthol starter set and checked it out.
I'm uncertain of the model of this one, but then I don't have much experience with anything but the 510 and a bunch of HV mod units. Check the photos and see if anyone can ID this thing. This is clearly a "micro-mini", with the atty bridge very prominent and in the open. Looks like it would be a great unit for dipping, and it comes with a "blank" cart molded and punched differently than the regular carts - looks custom made for dipping/dripping.
The carts contain little plastic inserts, semi-rectangular so air flows around them, filled with poly and juice. There is a foil cover on the open end that apparently you are supposed to punch out with the atty (there are no instructions in these units). There is clearly not 200 drags worth of juice, but probably about 2/3 as much as a 510 cart unmodified. They should be pretty easily refillable; I'll try later tonight and see (probably replace the poly with blue foam and fill it with Atomic Fireball

).
My initial review - from a hardware standpoint, it's a pretty neat, compact device. The atty, as I mentioned, looks perfect for dripping/dipping, and the battery charges up fast - about 20 - 30 minutes. I haven't worn one down yet; still more data to update. Unlike some reports of "mall kiosk" e-cigs, however, this one produces quite a lot of vapor - comparable with the 510, but in a smaller package.
The downside: The supplied carts suck. The taste is almost non-existent, and the TH is nil. It's quite like an "ultra-light" version of e-juice. The vapor quantity is about all that I can see to recommend this guy... now if I can figure out a way to sell better juice at 7-Elevens that carry these units...
