about the claims... here is one thing that is funny. If something is classified as homeopathic, then the FDA does not cover it either and they can make all the claims they want. Here is a case in point. Smoke Away: Official Company Site

Keep in mind that this is ingested. I'm sure you've heard the commercials, etc. There is no real evidence that it works. I was one of many chumps who tried it and it obviously didn't work out for me all that well. regardless, the fact that it is "homeopathic" exempts it from many issues. Well, that is true as long as it doesn't kill anybody.

did that but no "view label" link. sheisters.

Nor is htere any scientific evidence to suggest that it is any worse than smoking hte 60 some odd carcinogens that you get from cigarettes, yet apparently, folks don't need to buy ciggs in pharmacies only in Bahrain?

Hi Nazareth, don't know if you have read this news article, but it contains information that WHO say it's as dangerous as smoking real cigarettes, and that a shipment of e-cigarettes were confiscated at an international airport. They say claims that they were used as smoking cessation devices was "absurd". Here is the article from a tobacco.org website news link:
-------------------------------snip--------------------------------
E-Cigarettes Siezed at Airport
Author: MANDEEP SINGH

Intro: A CONSIGNMENT of "e-cigarettes" allegedly falsely marketed as devices that help people quit smoking was intercepted at Bahrain International Airport yesterday. Health officials ordered the shipment to be held by Customs officers after the electronic devices were advertised across the country through a mass e-mail. Bahraini firm Magnolia Contracting imported a large number of the e-cigarettes, claiming they could help people kick the habit. However, Health Ministry deputy health education head and Bahrain Anti-Smoking Committee chairman Dr Kadhem Al Halwachi described the claim as "absurd". "The World Health Organisation (WHO) has certified these devices as being the same as cigarettes and equally harmful to an individual's health," he said. . . . Meanwhile, a spokesman for Magnolia Contracting said the company was now trying to meet all requirements and planned to be in a position to sell the e-cigarettes in Bahrain in the next few days.
-------------------------------snip--------------------------------

How can is be just as dangerous? It makes no sense based on the comparison of lethal versus non lethal ingredients. Which dimwit at WHO decided to release that statement to the press then? They are the absurd ones if you ask me.

Have a nice day USA. From over the pond at England in the UK.

Those guys saying that they are the same as cigs are dumbasses. They have their talking points and they run with them. They don't really care if its true or not. And Bob lol, quit scaring everone. You always have to strike fear in the heart of lonely e-ciggers. JK.

I agree, they didn't know what they were dealing with. Customs should be keeping up with the trends of technology. It probably suprised them a bit and didn't know how to handle the shipment politically. Also in some places, real cigarettes and I guess this could apply to e-cigs is that they are a currency and can be used to pay for anything & safe passage through some rough territory. Needless to say, some officers are corrupt and take payment in cigarettes to keep a blind eye or let them through a border patrol quickly. Perhaps e-cigs threatened that currency? I know it will in some places.

That's really not the intent of posting a news item, as I did here. What I'm not willing to do, however, is bury my head in the sand, look the other way, wear rose-colored glasses, or do a happy Snoopy dance while blissfully e-smoking. We have a hard road ahead of us -- ask Dr. Loi, who has personal experience with Malaysian authorities.

All the wanting and wishing, relating personal anecdotes while bashing cigarettes, cursing the "nanny state" and name-calling of health specialists won't help our cause. Honesty about reality is not instilling fear. It's facing facts.

I know also that it will face tough challenges but I think they can be overcome if this is treated as an alternative therapy to quit. There are also many who want to keep e-smoking. Myself, I will take it a day at a time, and not quit too soon, perhaps my needs for the e-cig will be less over time and by lowering strengths. As a smoker for half my life, I am not in a great hurry to give up the alternative yet.

I guess the customs in come countries would lock you up for importing e-cigs, where conditions are so bad you don't get your free phone call. They might even shove a glove up your bum to see if you are hiding anything else. Not a nice day to walk home after!

I predict a move to an even healthier side of e-cigarettes with Vitamins, caffeine, energy, and relaxation alternatives. I think Distributors should seriously look into the Dietary Supplement market. Dietary herbal alternatives to nicotine that are NOT regulated by the FDA, have NO PLACE in a pharmaceutical market, yet give the mister a pleasant relaxing experience to take on that day. I hate to be reactionary in situations, however I believe selling kits WITH nicotine at this stage in the game is a HUGE mistake, and only opens you up to litigation, and as these folks discovered, a siege of assets.

Get on it folks! Don't ride the nicotine train to its inevitable dead end. You need a following of non nicotine users to overcome.
