I have been a pack a day smoker for the better part of the last 17 years. I started vaping full time 2 weeks ago tomorrow. Since I am down to 1 to 2 cigarettes a day. I am vaping 24 mg nic at a 80/20 blend (pg/vg). I have read that the flavor comes from the pg while the vapor comes from the vg. Does throat hit come from the pg side? I am looking for a smoother blend but dont want to spend a lot of money on samples. I was debating on going down to a 70/30 or 60/40 blend. Also I am thinking of dropping to 18 mg. I am looking for thoughts/suggestions and overall advice.

Equipment: Kanger T3S (2.2 ohm) on a Joytech eGo-C upgrade (650 mAh)

Flavor and vapor both come from both. There are 100% vg juices that are quite tasty! and some all pg juices that make pretty impressive clouds.

Pg carries flavor to your tongue a -little- better than vg, and vg does make more visible vapor volume. The th is different between them, but not a more or less type of different. Pg is thinner than vg, and thus wicks more rapidly.

Personally, I like a 70/30 ratio, but it's purely based on how a given juice performs for you in a given device. If smoother is what you're after, I would suggest dropping your nic level a notch, and ordering a few bottles of the same flavor at different ratios, so you can dial in to what you like.

Hi Palantir,

Welcome to ECF.

As a PAD smoker, 18mg is probably about right for you. 24mg is recommended for 1.5-2 PAD smokers to start. I was a 1.5 PAD smoker, and started with 24mg also, discovered very quickly it was too much.

Getting a smoother vape is definitely a function (at least in part) of the PG/VG ratio. I would recommend trying a 60/40 blend (get a small bottle) and if that is too smooth, upping it to 70/30. If you get a VV or VW device, you could also adjust the levels downward to help smooth out the vape.

So yes, the throat hit does come from the PG in the mix, and the PG/VG ratio also has *some* impact on the flavor, but flavor is actually separate ingredients in the mix, not PG or VG specifically. The higher the PG content the more throat hit and less vapor. The higher the VG content the more vapor and less throat hit. Finding the right mix ratio is the tricky part.

Of course, as always, YMMV!

HTH!

IMHO, the brand and strength you smoked is more important the PAD number.

A 1 PAD Camel smoker and a 2 PAD ultra-light smoker are looking for entirely different vaping experiences.

Personal preference, as always, is the key. I smoked full-flavor cigs and found 18mg was perfect, but there are people on this forum who vape 36mg and barely getting by.

YMMV

Nic also aides in throat hit. It also has a slight peppery taste to it. As my body got used to vaping and it didn't need the higher nic, the nic got to tasting too harsh on my throat and tongue. As I have stepped down in nic, the vape has gotten smoother. I did need the higher nic as I was transitioning from cigs to vaping.

There are a few vendors that offer 100% VG liquids, because some are allergic to PG. Those use VG based flavors. Heather's Heavenly Vapes has a Purity Line where you can have 100% VG e-liquid. You can still get those in whatever ratio you like but it can be made PG free. I get mine at 70/30 PG/VG.

It really is an individual thing. I smoked Marlboro Light 100's, a pack a day. I started out at 18-24mg in e-liquid. It still took me a month of both smoking and vaping before I gave up that last couple of cigs.
