DevilFish, be sure you post the newspaper clipping you'll see after Xanthos is arrested. 8-o

Just remember that there is no "right" to do what we do. We do so only with the permission of property owners and authorities. An authority has to only issue a decree to give arrest power for a specific action not otherwise permitted by law. If authorities decree e-smoking will not be allowed, then your protests will be futile and you could indeed end up in court.

That will not advance e-smoking in Singapore or anywhere else. Dr. Loi has set up mall demonstrations and is attempting to educate people on the health advantages of e-smoking. That's the route to take. Reason with people. Demonstrate the product. Educate the masses so they understand the benefits of what we do.

Some times, defiance is valuable currency for change. But we must spend it wisely. This is probably not a wise rebellion to undertake.

:rolleyes:problem is our system here , Dr loi should know
how our freaking system here works..and who is the party that control sg .for so many yrs ppl said is with iron fist...

by the way good luck dr loi :D IF U SMOKE IN smoking areas is fine I should said ....BUT IF U SMOKE IN non smoking areas mostly u will be caught wether is real or fake cigarette.

even in smoking areas if happen custom officer come out to ask ..(here the custom officers is assign to catch ppl smoke contraband cigarette)
I not sure how they will deal with it

We have just had the results of a by-election which was held in Scotland, Glasgow East tonight.

For 90 years the Labour party have been in control. Tonight they have been kicked out of office. People in this country are sick and tired of having a Labour government that dictates everything we do and keeps banning more and more things.

I should think, our self-appointed Prime Minister is a very worried man tonight:D

Eventually, little empire builders come crashing down;)

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Disagreement noted, and that's fine. I'm really suggesting that we "choose the fight." Not sure this is the time and place for an individual protest. But then again, how do we get the public's ear? How can we ever get this before a public forum for a hearing? Maybe he'll be the Eve case in court? Numero Uno. And maybe a judge will overturn any order to prohibit e-smoking or confiscate his device. But I wouldn't bet on it.

I bet the gavel comes down and he is fined and loses his e-cig.

And I'd rather have Dr. Loi dragged before Singapore authorities to plead the case for legalizing e-smoking. Wouldn't you? We don't need passion when we want compassion. Choose the fight. Choose the warrior. Engage the battle.

Ahem..thanks Bud....that's where I shall be...;)

devilfish, you are confusing me. Were the e-Smokers caught for smoking in non smoking area or were they caught for contraband? What I'm saying is it's ridiculous to classify e-Cigs as a contraband.

As for smoking in non smoking area, I'll respect whatever their decision is, but for tax evasion? Screw them.

;) problem in the first place the health authority ban commerical sales of e cigarette in sg.BUT buying from online ..is unclear here..maybe they close one eye..because u brought for "personal" usage here.

if u been caught s moking ur e cigarette in areas where there is fellow smokers around in smoking area especially at town areas...where they like to hide can come to check ur cigarette..till now I still haven;t and I don;t wish to ..I not scare if I smoke real cigarette is legal ones not contraband ..I do smoke contraband last time but my supplier scare to sell till no more....BUT there is still selling but I don;t want to take the risk if u want to smoke in public.

talking back to e cigarette , they will ask ..confirm ...they will Qs u where u get it...if u said brought online for personal usage ..I believe they will simply fine u .here..BUT provided u smoke in smoking areas..not in areas where smoking is ban.

U know sg law lah bro.....

as long this device produce smoke .and look like cig..they will amuse u smoking ! that is ..

Smoking in non smoking area i can totally understand. Fine me for owning an e-Cigarette? I don't think so.

People are called for smoking overseas cigarettes because they did not pay Tobacco Tax. At the moment, the Singapore Law has not made the e-Cig taxable yet. It's banned from sale because in our law, it is stated that "No sale or advertisment of products designed or packaged to resemble tobacco products is allowed"

So far, there are no laws which bans the usage of such products yet. The custom officers have the rights to ask you where you got it from, but at the moment, they cannot arrest or fine you. This thing is not illegal to possess yet, but who knows, maybe in the future when the e-Cig gets popular, the government may just ban it outright.

We are safe for now, but for how long, we'll never know. Like what you said, you know the kind of government we have here.

Oh well. That's Singapore off my places I want to visit then:(

Sooner or later though, people start to want change. Once the seeds of discontent with a regime start to germinate it's only a matter of time before real change is demanded and people start to rebel at the ballot box (hopefully if it is a democratic country).

We just need to look at history world-wide to see that from the fall of the Roman Empire to the present day.

Sometimes change is very slow though.

"No sale or advertisment of products designed or packaged to resemble tobacco products is allowed"

Thanks for posting a fact instead of a fear. This is not the way the U.S. law is worded, but in essence, this is a practice becoming common for our FDA regulatory agency. It bodes poorly for authorizing e-smoking. If it looks in any way like smoking, it will not be allowed.

The absolute certainty is that regulation lies ahead of us. If nothing else, the world needs assurance that e-smoking is in fact safer than smoking tobacco. We really can't say this and back it up with science. We just "assume" it. That proves nothing and will get nowhere with authorities.

On the other topic: Recognize when change has overtaken practice. Smoking cigarettes in public is over. It is history. The tide will not turn. Bans will spread. One hundred thousand smokers could march on Parliament and nothing will change. The "good old days" are not returning as far as public tobacco smoking is concerned (and that bothers me because I smoke a pipe in public sometimes). No politician dare even smoke a cigarette in the United States now. A cig smoker would not win an election. There is no "pro smoking" contingent in Congress.

Do remember that only one in five people smoke cigarettes where I live. And cigarette smokers are the least educated, least affluent members of society, by census survey. They do not have the clout to force change. They do not have the numbers to vote it in. The rich and powerful have the politicians and votes. Smoking cigarettes will never again be accepted and freely practiced. Find a better way to get nicotine.

When you visit Singapore as a Tourist, you will not feel the tension. And yes, we are a democratic country and one of the most developed in Asia and the top 3 countries in the world with the most millionaire per capita.

Our government is extremely strict, but comes every election, the people still vote for the same government. Why? Despite all the complaints we have, most of us know that Singapore will not be as successful as it is now without the current government, no one wants to risk changing to a different one.

Do visit Singapore, you will be amazed at our law and order. How clean everything is.

Chewing gum is banned? Wow!

Your government don't even trust you to dispose of chewing gum so they banned it? 8-o

Yes. The ban was implemented many years ago (15 over years) because of the disposal of gums.

We have almost 500% tax on tobaccos base on my own calculation, not based on any research.

We pay COE whenever we purchase a new car, the COE (Certificate of Entitlement) law is exclusive to Singapore. You can read more about it here Certificate of Entitlement - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and yes, they cost a bomb.

Someone in our country got arrested for tapping into his neighbour's wireless network to surf the net.

Though not usually enforced, gathering in groups of more than 5 people without a permit is considered an illegal gathering. But they don't really care unless you look suspicious. I go out in groups of 8 to 10 all the time.

Trafficking more than 15 grams of heroine or 30 grams of ....... is punishable by death.

These are some of the amazing laws we have.
