I posted asking for advice on how to clean my cartos and I think I got a lot of advice that, while valid, was not applicable to the Eastmall cartos I got with my Riva. I took off the white part that would normally be a cap at the mouthpiece end and actually broke it off as it was not a separate piece. They're definitely not designed to be taken apart, I couldn't even get the filler out once i broke the cap off. Anyone familiar enough to these cartos to give me advice on how to clean them? Is there any reasonable way to clean them without first removing the cap and filler? Could I just wash them altogether and wait for them to dry? Are they just throwaways?

Lots of posts I've read on the subject suggest using tongs to hold the carto cap end in hot, (boil then left set for a few), water a few seconds to loosen the glue used to hold the tip in. If water is too hot, or carto left too long, it will distort. This usually allows for much easier plug/tip removal. Then proceed with instructions you've already got. Or, some just drop the whole carto in alcohol, leave it for 5 minutes or so, take it out and let the remaining alcohol drain from the end. Several trips through this process are used until the alcohol streams freely from the carto. Blow it out into a tissue until no liquid expels. Leave it dry for overnight. If you can no longer smell the alcohol it's dry. Works with any hard tip carto I've used. And for your trouble you've probably saved .80
EM has soft tip cartos now. I refill um, (long before they're dry), for about a week then toss um. Used to spend $7 a day for analogs, what the hell's .80 + juice a week? Oh, forgot to add in the cost to recharge my batts.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

I just hold my carto's under hot running water and then shake and blow them out.

The hard caps are hard to get off..if you break and endpiece use the rubber carto cover (after putting a hole in the end) as an end piece.
The filler does NOT come out. It's wrapped around the stuff inside (sorry for the techy talk). These are not the same as a cart.

If you are using P.G. rinsing should be fine..P.G. kills germs (to a point) I have used, rinsed and refilled cartos many many times with no problems. i don't bother rinsing mine everytime. I refill with the same flavor and keep on vaping.

Did an alcohol soak and then tried to run the alcohol through them but only one or two drops ever went came out at a time, never a stream. Blew all the excess liquid out and left them out to dry. ~15 hours later, they smell like a gross jagerbomb due to the redbull flavor and alcohol, and old liquid and alcohol still comes out when I blow through them. Soooo they never cleaned or dried out. Hrrrm.

I personally use tweezers to hold the carto while I blast it with a hairdryer. That seems to loosen the glue for the cap. I use the metal holder thingimajig off a bull clip to pry off the cap. It does take awhile but damage is usually minimal.

I would imagine that taking the cap off and then blasting that with a hairdryer would also quicken the drying process?

Whew, Mary Kay and Smix, you guys are talking way over my head - with the stuff inside and the thingimajig. ;)

I've never really had too much luck washing cartos either. It always seems like they won't absorb liquid afterward, or they won't release it if they do. I haven't soaked one in alcohol, though. That should dry faster. For me, it's not so much the 80 cents as it is the possible running out or bans or whatever. If it were something I could just run to Walmart and get, I probably wouldn't even try. Mine seem to last me about 5 heavy days before they need to be washed or tossed. As already said, though, you can just hold them in a cup of almost boiling water for 30-45 seconds to get the cap off (just dodge the steam). I've used a little pocket knife to cut between the edge of the cap and the sticker and pry them loose. I think I only broke 1.
