So Im trying to order at MtBaker, and I saw the flavorings say the can be mixed 15-40% strength with unflavored nic juice. But I'm wondering if I could just layer the flavors over a generic flavor juice like tobacco or cream or something. Then I wouldn't need to worry about PG/VG ratios and all of that. What are your thoughts on this method?

Thanks so much!

You could try that, but it is best to mix your flavors in a PG/VG mix. If you want easy, you can get nic unflavored ejuice at Halo called fusion. It is already mixed with nic, you just add the flavors. That is how I started DIY to get my feet wet :) Mix only 3 or 5 ml to try, a drop of flavor per ml, then try it. If it is weak add another drop until you get the right %. Then write it on the bottle! ha ha so easy to forget if not marked down :) bnrk

Sure, as long as you're okay with altering the ratio and nic content of the original juice. MBV flavorings are ideally suited for this purpose, actually, as they're already diluted well enough that you can add a little at a time to find a good flavor balance without much risk of adding too much at once. Remember that by doing so you will also be adding to the amount of PG in your mix, as MBV flavorings are PG-based.

Also keep in mind that some MBV flavorings (the tobaccos and cream-types in particular) will need some time to steep so they meld with the other components of whatever you've mixed them into.

The easiest way to make DIY juices is like this:

Order your unflavored nicotine (Wizard Labs gets my recommend, btw) in a strength about 20- 25% % higher nicotine content then u vape, usually.

So if you vape 18 mg strength eliquid order 24 MG unflavored nic.....in pg or vg ratio u want. If Wizard Labs doesn't offer 50/50 unflavored anymore find a vendor that does.

The amount of flavoring percentage you add will LOWER THE NIC LEVEL of your unflavored anyway. So if your flavorings total 20% (4.8% less nicotine in ur diy flavored eliquid)......Add a mil of pg, and a mil of vg to that mix.

Now you have close to 18 mg flavored eliquid in the flavors u wanted. Stir it, shake it, cap it....Let most of it sit for 3 days...if its a tobacco/coffee/tea/cappucino blend it will take 30 days to blend really well.

$4.99 for 7mL of unflavored nicotine base?

How do they sleep at night? 60mL is $4.59 at Wizard Labs.

Oh, wizard labs wow! I'm like a kid in a candy store! I didn't realize the nic was set in PG or VG, I thought it was totally separate. Now DIY doesn't seem so scary anymore lol.

They don't sell a 50/50 mix, but I thought I was thinking to just get one of each. Dang that is so cheap... If I get the hang of this I could really save a chunk of change. (epiphany!)

Perhaps it would be better to start with a VG base anyways, considering that the flavorings are PG based? Then if I put 40% flavor in, I'd have a 40/60 mix, which is kinda close to 50/50...

Ok, but before I get too far ahead of myself, are there any hard and fast rules of mixing? Like things that are just known disasters and/or health hazardous? I know I can grasp the conversions and whatnot. I do a lot of experimental baking.

Search for the "EJuiceMeUp" e-juice calculator, and just plug in your numbers. Its as easy as that. It will ask you what base your nic is (PG/VG), what strength it is (mg), what strength you want to end up with, how many mls you want to end up with, and then you just plug in your flavors to your desire (Ex - "Vanilla - 10%, Tobacco - 5%"). It will calculate what you've put into it, and tell you exactly how many mls of each ingredient you need to mix, Ex - 2ml nic base, 2ml PG, .5ml flavor.

When I first started I considered doing the 'easy' method of just adding flavor to a base that is close to my nic mg. Honestly though, after toying around with the calculator, I'm pretty sure this is just as easy or easier than the "easy" method. Theres literally no work involved besides being creative with flavors and knowing how to use a syringe.

It is a good way to start and is unintimidating for new DIY'er and they don't have to deal with 100 or 60 nic at poisonous levels. It is how I started and I do recommend it. Now I do buy high nic base and dilute, but way back when it was not something I wanted because I didn't even know if i would like DIY. Just another option newbies. bnrk

If you get high level nic base like 60 or 100 it is poisonous at that level, BE very careful! When I buy high level nic I dilute to 30 right away because that is not a poisonous level at 30. I vape 6 nic for my DIY, so I do alot of diluting from there too. bnrk

This would be the same as buying just unflavored nic. At whatever percentage you want to vape. Whatever ejuice you buy is just your "base nic" with tobacco or whatever flavor already there. Add whatever tastes good to it if you already have something that tastes good. Just pay attention to your PG/VG ratios if they happen to come into play for VG clogging up stuff. Your nic doesn't matter alot if your only adding around 10% or less flavor to it.

Personally if I vape eliquid over 18% flavored I'm gagging.

I add 12 to 16% flavorings in total, 9 times out of 10. So 84 to 88% of mine is unflavored nic....Too much flavoring percentage will taste like crap, chemical tasting....

Me too. My Menthol mix is the highest flavor % I have. If not for 10% Koolada it wouldn't be any higher than the others. 10-12% flavor or less on most. TFA, FW, and FA are all I use. I buy TFA and FW from them not a retailer.

I think I'm done with Capella! I complained about a recent shipment of Sweet Strawberry...Here I'm touting it on websites as THE strawberry to get (it usually is) but its always pricey. The most expensive brand of flavoring I buy by far, and the batch just sucks.

Strawberry Custard is my main vein, my fav vape.

I'm stuck with a crappy 4 oz bottle of acidic low flavored strawberry. They promised to replace it (I bought a lot more then one flavor, the rest were ok) and its been 8 days....no replacement

Even if it arrives now 8 days is too long to leave me hanging.....I'm done with Capella.

Never bought from them because of concerns over the shear amount of flavoring I see folks using. Got some of their tobacco stuff I wanted to try but folks like you are changing my mind even on that. I been happy with TFA and FW. I haven't had any funny stuff with orderd items from them. Just me but I buy US made as best I can. Not saying China juice/flavor is bad, just my pref. I don't have any non-US except some FA.

I've been buying strictly Capp and FA. I have a tackle box of TFA stuff already, I only like some of TFA's...can't say "most." But some are very good, imo.

Flavor west I'm seriously thinking about using often now. Their prices are excellent. I have FW "Ecto Cooler" and I do use that in 2 recipes ECTOPLASMA + PLUID clones.....I hear their caramel candy is good...hoping the Tropical Punch and Doublemint gum are good as I have some ideas for recipes

FW has some good Tobaccos and TFA I pretty much get everything else there. The FA tobaccos are what I get there too.

I use FW and TPA most of the time plus some of the organics. Organic toffee is one of my favs. As for Capella I must have some allergy to it, I cannot vape fresh brewed Cappella, my lips actually had a chemical burn from it and I only mix at about 10%. So something in there does not work for me, but not sure why. bnrk
