Eating.. is such a chore these days. Whenever I'm in a mall, I just pace around indecisively. Every single thing seems to be touted as the next awesomest super food. Yet the next day, there's an article about how it causes .... cancer in infants
When I went off to college, I suddenly had to pick out the foods myself. So I figured since anything I would normally enjoy would be bad for me anyway, I'd pick out something efficient and healthy and stick with it for the rest of forever! And then, as i learned more about food, problems arose.
First off was oatmeal cookies. They were pretty great I though, 2 bucks bought you an entire day's worth of calories!
Then I found out that I can't survive on calories alone and need a balance of carbs, fats and protein, meh.
Second was oatmeal cookies for carbs, turkey ham for protein and almonds for fat and protein.
Then I found out that I need some stuff called vitamins, blah.
Third off, I added a handful of vitamin supplements to my diet! man logic.
Then I found out that supplements aren't really recommended that much, some absorption controversy and whatnot. Also I was lacking minerals. And the ham had too much sodium.
Fourth, fifth, sixth.. etc. I cycled through:
Various fresh foods, which turned out to be too poor in x or y, take too damn much time to eat since i would need to consume ungodly amounts to reach my caloric goal.
Various dried fruit, which turned out to have either lost their nutritional value or fried in the wrong kind of oil or whatever.
Various canned goods, which turned out to either be poisonous when improperly cooked, too much of this or that micronutrient and so on.
Various frozen goods, which turned out to also have lost their nutrition, were full of heavy metals and rumored to be funding terrorism..ack
At this point I've lost appetite for all of them. Presently my diet consists of yogurt and cranola for breakfast, rye bread, cheese and pasta for lunch and ice cream in between if i feel like snacking. By my calculations, these should cover everything and not kill me tomorrow. That is good. However, I've been eating the same things for some months now and feel like I'm getting tired of the cranola and I'm not sure what to replace it with.
What is your take on eating good things?
PS! I have it on good authority that I'm totally not over thinking this, my mum said so.
