Eating large amounts of meat, cheese may be as deadly as smoking, study shows | Fox News

....for those who continue to consume excessive amounts of animal protein, Longo warned that they could be putting themselves at as much risk as if they were smoking cigarettes.

“Cancer mortality was higher for high-protein [eaters] compared to current smokers,” Longo said.
I can't decide whether to file this under "Who says there's no slippery slope?" or "Nevertheless I *will* continue to enjoy my steak-and-a-vape dinners."

We kinda KNEW for some time now that this was likely the case, didn't we?
Along these same lines, I think that the concept of PORTION CONTROL when it comes to certain foods goes hand-in-hand with this research and the types of foods we love to eat. We Americans tend to eat TOO MUCH of everything. I only wish I could live on an all steak diet........

Seems to me these researchers take an egregiously simplistic view of the matter. So many factors are involved: genetics, biology, chemistry, environment, lifestyle... Who is to say what actually causes a medical outcome (well, barring such things as blunt force trauma or a bullet)? All they can say is that there may be a correlation.

*I* have a pretty good idea about what's good for me, what works for me, and what affects my quality of life. And I refuse to alter or be concerned about my steak-and-a-vape dinner!

*Think I'll add cheesecake to the menu, with a nod to Dame Sally Davies, England's Chief Medical Officer, and her campaign against "addictive sugar" that she recommends taxing. Cheesecake: that's dairy *and* sugar... :thumb:

Exactly  They really don't have a true 'control group' for this.... and they really shouldn't include diabetes in their results. I had a friend who cured actually diabetes by following the diet from this book:

Protein Power: The High-Protein/Low Carbohydrate Way to Lose Weight, Feel Fit, and Boost Your Health-in Just Weeks!: Michael R. Eades, Mary Dan Eades: 9780553574753: Amazon.com: Books

Oh cr@p! Now they're gonna ban meat and cheese products in public spaces, and they're gonna tax them at 95%. On the other hand I can't wait to cash in from the Meat and Dairy MSA. Anybody want to start a Class Action lawsuit?

Don't forget when you're taxing the meat and cheese, to also tax the meat and cheese delivery systems, a knife and fork.

Well there's a topic for a whole different forum right here in the meat/cheese thing. Bottom line is, correlation does not equal causality. Very similar situation with e-cigs - BP and Big Agriculture is behind most of the issues w/the Low-Carb camp.

(Thanks for the book link Kent - I've been looking for another good one on this topic :) )
