Why is there now an Editor's note at the beginning of the article? I'm sure it wasn't there earlier.

Are CNN trying to distance themselves from the opinion piece?

I'm loath to say this but I think it was there before. My second change to remember he founded the Summit and I scrolled right by it to get to the article text. I think the editors are just pointing out his credentials to write the piece.

Man that's an awesome article. I agree with everything you said in there. I believe that BT is going to end up taking over the e cig market if things don't go well with the FDA. I seriously hope the FDA realizes that they're literally playing with peoples lives here and take this seriously. If they screw this up and e cigs go away a lot of people are going to go back to smoking. vaping definitely does need some regulation though. Just not as much as the FDA wants.

First thanks for ECF!

Great article!

It one thing to read a bunch of rules and regs.......it's another to spell out what that means to vapors and vendors...from a practical standpoint.

My wife worked for a MAJOR pharmaceutical company (that begins with "Pf") for years...the entire product development arm is structured around FDA compliance involving researchers, scientists, doctors, accountants, and lawyers.

Even the largest ecig product manufacturers would be challenged by the impending requirements for compliance as written.

Why is any regulation needed? What would you like to see regulated and by whom?

I'm a fan of industry/trade groups setting standards amongst themselves. Suppliers then chose to join and adhere to the industry standards or not. The consumer then decides if they want to buy from them.

I think, as FDA is the government bureau for regulating consumables, that some minor regulations are warranted. Product warning labels, mandatory laboratory conditions for liquid production, quality standards, etc are things that we consumers really can't be assured are present at this point. If regulations aren't imposed, there is inherent concern that our e-liquid is being mixed in a tub that the "manufacturer" also bathes his/her dog. I don't want to vape Fido's bath water or any residue of it. See what I mean? I don't think the idea of safety regulations is a bad thing. I DO think regulations are an opportunity to manipulate the control of market share for those companies willing to $way government agencies, though. As such, I applaude all advocates who keep a watchful eye to pressure the feds from commiting ....ery.

Cliff's notes: Not all regulations are bad. When regulations are imposed for the benefit of the wealthiest market shareholders rather than for the safety of the population, then that's bad, mkay.
