I'm with you, but anyone that carries a battery in a pocket near their reproductive organs with spare change ain't too bright. ;)
People have been carrying Duracells for radios & a vast array of stuff for ages. It wasn't until I started vaping that the dangers of batteries became first world problems.
People who do not know the difference will treat an 18350/490/650 just like a Duracell. My point is all they know is that it's a battery.

The only people I know on vaping forums are you all here. Those in my personal life who vape have never been on any forum & haven't a clue about battery safety.

I kind of look at it this way. Dude had to go somewhere to figure out how to build the coil, or someone built it for him and they had to go somewhere to figure out how to build the coil. There have been plenty of news write ups on explosions by now, surely someone in his social circle has heard and mentioned to him, even if he hasn't. If I heard, or was told, that the device I was using had the chance of blowing up, I think I'd google it on my handy dandy smartphone. The first guy? He gets a pass, maybe even the second and third. But now? Uhm... yeah. :)
Where I come from, cultural differences play a large part in whether one actually listens/watches the news or remotely pays attention to any of the stuff you mentioned. I know a lot of people with the 'I don't care about all that" mentality.
I can share knowledge all day long but I can't force a person to get it.

I've always used mechs exclusively. I've no use for anything else. I don't want someone's chips or circuits in my mod and I don't want anyone dictating what I can do with it with regard to my builds. People who want to control me and my vaping in that way can have no place in my life. For me my builds are my control of it. Anything else is junk foisted upon me by profit seekers. Others are happy to settle for that. I am not.

Lol. I have a regulated mod. I guess I'm letting my mod control my life.

Vaping is doomed.

This was me 5 years ago when I first began vaping. After a month or so of using cigalikes, I purchased my first mechanical mod. My only experience with batteries prior to this was flashlights and radio's. I had no idea should the fire button on my mod get stuck that the ICR battery would explode...which it did.

That's when I started Googling and reading about battery safety/mech mods/battery chemistry, etc. I shared what I learned on ECF, and lead the movement away from protected ICR batteries to safer chemistry IMR batteries. Batteries have come a long way to being "safer" from when I started, but mods (mechs) have not. That's why I am currently advocating mech mods have improved ventilation holes for when a battery vents.
