Anyone know of an official ECF IRC Channel? If not I was going to look into maybe starting one of like freenode or something.

i know v4l has one may want to talk to the guy who runs it (sunmanx i think) its a private server im sure he could throw up an ecf channel on there for you.
lol try iirc. it's a little more modern and easier to use than .....X ( i say this after many years of .....X usage.) but it's still a term based irc client.
easy to run in a screen so you can "always be there".

lol it still runs in a terminal. iirc does to. it's just a bit easier on the care and feeding than .....x is.
at least that's my opinion. you may just wanna stick with what you know. usually iirc is the default irc client with distros and isps (the few that give you shell access) now.
You mean ISPs give shell access!? How does it work? I did get Linux on my server but then formatted it to put Windows on to do firmware updates! Now that I did that I can put Linux back on Maybe Ubuntu Server with Gnome put back on but not automatically starting, I liked that when I did it last time!
Maybe Ubuntu Server with Gnome put back on but not automatically starting, I liked that when I did it last time!way back in the day, when you got your dial up account from an isp you used to get a shell that you could ssh/telnet/etc into. most places have stopped that due to the script kiddies etc. but .....X or irssi was almost always a part of that.
and yeah, you can put ubuntu server on it and i /think/ it comes with it. if not then you can apt-get it fairly easily. it also comes (iirc) some decent gui irc clients bundled with it.
if you don't want to install windows, just go to mIRC: Internet Relay Chat client and download that. that used to be the de-facto irc client for windows.

Ahh yes I hear of Irssi I think the package was included with one of the Linux distros I tried but I never knew what it was for hehe!
Hehehe when I mention Linux and other unix related ramblings what I really mean is it doesn't make sense to me and I need a 'Linux for dummies' user guide
