The link was from a hosting site so there's always something behind what such info you get.
Also who knows how long ago that was written.

Xenforo was slowed down a few years ago with development while the owners of Xenforo were going through court cases with vB, vB dragged it on as much as they could before Xenforo won their case.

Once that was done the development was quick and fast and a lot of big community Forums who had been sat waiting for this outcome started to move over to Xenforo software.

Xenforo software is developed by the 2 ex-lead developers of vB 3, they both left vB as they didn't like the way vB was heading with vB 4 and vB 5.
vB has never been the same since vB 3 and Xenforo is light years ahead in the way they code and do all the tables for the software.
It has a great community behind it, some great 3rd party ad on developers and just keeps on growing, where as vB keeps on going backwards and most feel they will never get back what they once had.

Social networks such as FB have hit Forum communities a lot, but Xenforo has a feel for that and will keep the Forum side of life alive for years to come.
I was a huge vB fan, owned and ran many a vB site, even did some coding of mods but since moving to Xenforo there is no looking back.

It will take a little time to get used to for some, but it is by far the better software.

As i said above this quote, it is by far the better software in so many ways

Yes, the Xenforo software has an import tool in the Admin CP, which imports all data from vB into a new database, everything such as posts counts, posts, Threads, pictures and such are simply imported in with the build in importer.

It was so easy to do when I did mine, but my site is no where near the size of this place, but I am sure with the year of planning they will have things ready here.
The user and user group permissions are kind of different so I am sure that that will be a huge headache for the guys doing this, as they don't really import over the same as the vB permissions.

I'd advise all members to take their time, report any problems clearly so the back end staff can sort it out in time.
Look forward to the move
Very nice explanation even more than i expected thanks

And after your explanation now I'm more eager for the changes lol

I've been over to the test site and all my PM's are there, they just aren't in folders anymore. It's like someone took the contents of a drawer of files and emptied all the papers out. They are in chronological order, just out of the folder. They are working on getting something in place so that they can be organized to a certain degree.
Just to make sure I understand...
The current PMs from my Inbox will be in the same place as the current PMs from my Sent Items?

Thanks again!
:)

What about my reprimands from where I have gracefully danced along the razors edge and then was misinterpreted as breaking the rules (I understand it, not everyone gets me. One day they will. Or perhaps I should say, their greatX10 grandchildren will get it when society has evolved to understand me)? Where are they going to be?

...My Classifieds stuff, my Moderating notes, messages from members, messages with individual staff...are all lumped together in there.
No more Folders, Inbox or Sent.

I gotta get moving and stash my stuff from here that I still want separated :)

Yes, one of the things I don't like about xenforo is the messaging. I don't use folders, but like PM's much better than conversations.

I get what you're saying about the 'conversations'. It feels like everyone can see them. Truly they can't, though, unless you invite them into the conversation.

Yes, I know. I use them on another forum and they just seem cumbersome and more difficult to navigate

I totally get ya there stew... I prefer the PM's as well, but unfortunately, it's the way it's designed in XF. There may be some tweaks that can be made here & there, so time will tell. :)

Those get imported multiple times which means you're going to automatically be banned for too many violations

The date got pushed back. They want to make sure everything is as worked out as possible so there are less glitches that occur.

Do you know if the working Date for the Roll-Over has been set?

I was all Excited when I came today to see what the New Software looked like. Then I spilled my Coffee on my desk while doing some DIY Math.

Not a Good Mourning.

So its pretty much exactly how mine is now and not much diffrent than the hard copy paper work I have piles of laying all over the place till the next persons gripes I haven't sent it in. I have the office people trained well they dont expect me to turn in my paper work at all let alone on time;-)

Yeah... I know I should look at the Glass as Half Full instead of Half Empty.

It's just hard when the Glass is Completely Empty. Because it is laying on its side. And there are Multiple Rivulets of life giving Coffee rapidly seeking out Important Papers and Miscellaneous gadgets like the Dish Remote.

Haven't read the sticky yet, but can I assume that post count will move with the new changes? It's taken 5 years to get here. I'd hate to start over from post 1.

Yes. Likes, post count, etc. will all import just fine.

Will the new forums affect the ECF android app?

There will be no android app on the new forums as they're responsive in design. No need for a special application.

Just to make sure I understand...

As has already been stated, they'll all import into one area.

No firm date. We're currently doing another test import. Once that's finished and we've taken a look at the results, we'll have a better idea of when we'll do the real McCoy.
