I will figure it out. I'm just still mad about them taking away our rotary dial phones.

Yeah!
Next week we are moving from our old faithful forum software, vBulletin, to a newer application called XenForo.

The changeover day will be late in the week and most likely on or before Saturday 18th. We'll post a Notice just before it happens.

You can expect pretty much everything to be different, so there will be lots of fun

This has been in the planning for over a year now, and is finally going live. It isn't easy moving a giant forum to a new application, so it's taken some time to do.

Doesn't this sound a lot like "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you"?

vBulletin vs XenForo vs IPB | ITX

I had two vBulletin forums, got rid of both, it was a nightmare keeping hackers away.

Its a bigger nightmare re-installing all the files from vBulletin to any other forum, couldn't imagine the work it took to do this.
From the review in the link it's stated that xenforo is not the best of both three so i wonder what is the factor behind ecf move to xenforo?

Just a thought though can't wait for the changes[emoji1]

I was a vB admin for over 10 years and an IPB admin for 2. I now use XF and will never, ever go back to the other two packages.

The link was from a hosting site so there's always something behind what such info you get.
Also who knows how long ago that was written.

Xenforo was slowed down a few years ago with development while the owners of Xenforo were going through court cases with vB, vB dragged it on as much as they could before Xenforo won their case.

Once that was done the development was quick and fast and a lot of big community Forums who had been sat waiting for this outcome started to move over to Xenforo software.

Xenforo software is developed by the 2 ex-lead developers of vB 3, they both left vB as they didn't like the way vB was heading with vB 4 and vB 5.
vB has never been the same since vB 3 and Xenforo is light years ahead in the way they code and do all the tables for the software.
It has a great community behind it, some great 3rd party ad on developers and just keeps on growing, where as vB keeps on going backwards and most feel they will never get back what they once had.

Social networks such as FB have hit Forum communities a lot, but Xenforo has a feel for that and will keep the Forum side of life alive for years to come.
I was a huge vB fan, owned and ran many a vB site, even did some coding of mods but since moving to Xenforo there is no looking back.

It will take a little time to get used to for some, but it is by far the better software.

What makes you stayed with XF. Just in general cause i was just wondering [emoji1]

As i said above this quote, it is by far the better software in so many ways

Haven't read the sticky yet, but can I assume that post count will move with the new changes? It's taken 5 years to get here. I'd hate to start over from post 1.
Yes, the Xenforo software has an import tool in the Admin CP, which imports all data from vB into a new database, everything such as post counts, posts, Threads, pictures and such are simply imported in with the built in importer.

It was so easy to do when I did mine, but my site is no where near the size of this place, but I am sure with the year of planning they will have things ready here.
The user and user group permissions are kind of different so I am sure that that will be a huge headache for the guys doing this, as they don't really import over the same as the vB permissions.

I'd advise all members to take their time, report any problems clearly so the back end staff can sort it out in time.
Look forward to the move
