Doesn't sound normal to me at all! Pretty new to it all myself so I can't pinpoint a solution but it's definitely not normal and the more advanced members on the forum will be able to help, I'm sure.
Make sure everything is tightened up as well. Don't over do it, but just make sure everything is snug. I had a similar problem when I first started, and it was because the coil wasn't tight enough and juice was getting into the chamber.
Some clearomisers do spit from time to time. Are you using your original one or the new bad boy?
Spitting is not too much to worry about as long as it subsides and you don't get more than a little juice on your lips and mouth.
My iClear30 had been say unused for half a day and the first puff went mad and there was so much juice I had to run to the bathroom and rinse, just in case.
Yeah the new one doesn't happen constantly, I now press and wait a couple of seconds and watch first just in case. Some actually got me on the head earlier! I told it it was very rude! Don't worry, I realise it can't actually hear me

I have this problem with my I clear 16. I always just press the button, let it do it's spit thing, then hit it. I assumed it was just mad I wasn't using that particular company's juice
