So, I recently returned to college, and I have to say, I'm kind of out of my environment.

For how small the campus is (maybe 15k students), we have a .... load of police. It's a tiny town, with very few problems, but we have to pay the taxes to support a large group of officers that do little to nothing except, well, I don't really know what they do.

Normally I'm not nervous about vaping, because if people ask me about it, they're usually a smoker that is curious about how it might help them quit.

I'm worried (kind of a nervous nellie anyways) that if I start vaping in the library or student union, that I might get tackled or at least harassed by a cop.

Has anyone had much experience with police in public locations, while vaping?

I don't mean to be disrespectful to our brothers in blue, but I don't want anyone sicking the K9's on me, because they think I'm smoking pot in the library.

A friend of mine is in the ATF, and she knows what an ecig is. I've also shown it to a friend that's a state police officer, but they both seemed like it was new to them.

Well, if your really worried about it then you should bring your bloog to school and that will do the trick. But, you might just wanna vape outside so they don't think your smoking a cig in the library or whatever. OR, you can find a small little space within that library that doesn't have much people and vape away. Don't even think they'll notice since vapor doesn't stink.

If it were me...

First, find out if there's a specific regulation of any kind regarding ecig/pvs. johnny2 is exactly right about this. If there isn't a policy that specifies vaping, then...

Second, this is an excellent opportunity to Educate! (what better venue than on a campus, right?)

This is a flyer from CASAA explaining how smoke-free policies are not applicable to ecigs.

This brochure is a great general information handout regarding pvs.

Give the librarian an opportunity to look over the information you've provided, plus your personal experience.

So, if there are no ecig/pv specific regulations, explain that you simply wanted to avoid any misunderstandings about what you'll be doing. Further, you may offer that you're available should anyone else in the library express concerns. (even more educating opportunities!)

This is what I would do. Please don't let your "smoker's shame" affect your vaping. You know there is no shame, no harm to anyone else, etc. If you don't know all of this, please visit CASAA's website.

The best ambassadors are polite and informative. We desperately need ambassadors.

I went to a small private college too.
I would start with the dean. Ask for a meeting, explain what you do, ans point out the financial savings potential to the college. You dont risk burning down a dorm, you would be happy to give a demonstation to other students/employees, and that there is no trash such as butts to mar the landscape. If s/he likes the concept, ask that a memo or e-mail be sent to profs advising them of the e-cig use and benefits. IF you have a school newsletter, get an article in it. On a side note, dont use a nic that has an odor in the rooms. THIS could get you in trouble. People will associate a smell of any kind as something that they are ingesting, such as with second hand smoke.
One habit I had to change was blowing vapor UP, learn to blow down, it dissipates before many can see it.

Honestly, I would just elect to vape outside. Even though everyone at my office, including my boss, knows that I vape, I still only do so outside in the smoking area. I don't want to raise a fuss of any kind... Besides, I never .....ed about going outside when I needed nicotine as a smoker... I'm just not going to spoil myself on the concept of not going outside as a vaper. Best of luck!
