it's the nicotine they will over tax and control

Well of course they will but I think many of us saw that coming... I did. If these things replace regular smokes on a large scale they're going to be johnny on the spot to make up for the lost tax dollars. The biggest two reasons we still have tobacco cigs on the market... big tobacco is too embedded in the economy to shut down and the government can make a lot of money off their sale.

Its a good thing because the FDA was trying to regulate it as a drug delivery device and that had the potential to put it through clinical trials like a medical device, which could have stopped us dead until the trials were over, years. And cost a fortune.

That.....

And tobacco products are basically supposed to be taxed in relation to the harm they are believed to cause.
And because of that, electronic cigarettes should be taxed at rates comparable to snuff and snus.

I assume these are the current Federal Excise Taxes...
TTBGov Tax and Fee Rates

Code:
Tobacco Products 1000 units Pack of 20
Small Cigarettes $50.33 $1.01
Large Cigarettes $105.69 $2.11
Small Cigars $50.33 $1.01

Tobacco Products 1 lb. Tin or Pouch
Pipe Tobacco $2.8311 $0.1769
Chewing Tobacco $0.5033 $0.0315
Snuff $1.51 $0.0944
Roll-your-own Tobacco $24.78 $1.5488

That doesn't mean they won't do something outrageous and without justification.
But it will be up to all of us to fight to make sure everyone is, at the very least, properly educated.

Avoiding the tax man was never one of my incentives to start using a PV device. Quitting smoking was, and so far, vaping has been a success for me. Next step is to get off the nicotine as well, which will take some time. But I believe that with a PV the chances of success stopping all nicotine use are very good.

Would be a bonus to find my way off the nic before they figure out how to structure taxes on vaping though :D

As stated before this IS a good thing because the goal of the FDA was to regulate ecigs as a drug delivery device which would have meant much worse consequences to the ecig market.

I agree that having the govt involved in anything can only mean more regulation (taxes), but that might not be such a bad thing IMHO. I for one don't have much of a problem with juice suppliers having to prove what's in their juice, as long as the regulations don't restrict their sale.

It would be great if the FDA never got involved but this is a win compared to the alternative they were looking for which would have given them free reign to stop all overseas shipments immediately which is where almost all these devices come from.

i just hope we get a heads up on if/when they decide to start taxing because as many people know new york has some of the highest taxes when it comes to cigarettes last time i checked it was 11.00 dollars a pack and dont know if it was true or not but was told it was illegal to import cigarettes it was one of the main reasons i decided to vape.

But they will not be treated as cigarettes.

Ya know that article also states:
The additional tobacco product categories would be subject to general controls, such as registration, product listing, ingredient listing, good manufacturing practice requirements, user fees for certain products, and the adulteration and misbranding provisions, as well as to the premarket review requirements for “new tobacco products” and “modified risk tobacco products.”

Tobacco has over 4000 ingredients - why don't they have to be listed on cigarette cartons? That's just not right. I say whats good for the goose is good for the gander.

I attended the CASAA meeting last night. They feel it could take up to two years for any regulation to go into effect. Apparently there is a lot of red tape they have to go through to get all the regulation in place and finalized.

The FDA has to introduce new guidelines for all of the above mentioned in the article. This takes time. Some will go through some wont. Each aspect of this regulation has to be carefully considered introduced and voted on. The public will have a say in some of these matters. It's these things that we need to watch closely now.

I encourage all of you if you have not done so to get involved with CASAA or other groups like them to stay educated and informed about how YOU can help make a difference, and do your part to help us get the legislation we need passed and the legislation we don't need trumped.
