Lol, I tell everybody I see just starting to mod about the addiction/disease.:)

I like that green tin also, btw, here's the switches - MOMENTARY N.O. MINI-SWITCH they're only $.35 each. They're good switches & so far, I'm happy with how they perform.

I'm glad you're posting what you make. I've got a drawer full of altoids tin, but never knew these existed. The mints are pretty good too.:) I still want to find a train w/smokestack that is the size of that pez semi you modded.

I'm having issues with mine...Can't get the negative and how the heck did you get an 18650 to fit? You raised the lid, the batty connector and epoxied it in? I can't get the copper tape to make the negative contact. Any help?

Hi there storminyte,
Sci used the lid as a ground with his wires due to the booster he used. If you are not using a booster you can just use the lid as I did. A nice Blob of solder to it and try for contact to battery negative if you need more add more. My battery went right to the lid darn near so I needed very little.
You could use a spring and solder it to the lid as I did on my first one in the first post although my spring was very short it worked and I only changed that way to the solder for I wanted a better switch placement on the box so I made another.

As far as getting the 18650 to fit that`s where I used the copper tape and it needs a thin rubber, cork or similar sheet to keep it from making contact with the box since the box is actually the ground. This box is tin, metal or whatever and will pass current. So the positive needs to be isolated. But this does away with the need for a actual ground wire. I used one for backup only incase the battery/atty connector wasn`t in as tight as I like. Since I used a threaded switch I just wrapped the wire to it there then it pinched it to the tin box for making another ground contact.

To get the 18650 into the box you need to smash with vice grips the top and bottom edge of the rim of the box almost half way across but not that far or the lid will not snap shut. If you like I can toss up some more pictures of it actually being done. Just let me know and if I hit where you are actually having trouble or not.

Thanks Guys, more pics please...you know how visual I am!! I already trashed one! No big deal, they're cheap and the mints are yummy! LOL

Stormi, what are you using for the + connector? I'm using some copper foil tape taped to a piece of a foam rubber sheet. I then used some double sided tape to hold it to the tin.
I put a little solder under the copper foil tape on the lid to raise it up a little, that way, when you close the lid, it makes contact with the - end of the battery. On mine, I flattened the lip a little too far over so I added a drop of solder to it(see pic above) so it would catch the lid when closed.

I did basically the same thing for the + connection. Thin foam and the copper tape. For the neg I was trying to use the tape but it wouldn't make the connection. Maybe need to drop some solder like you did under it. But, the foam made it too tall on the 18650, had to go to an 18500. I'll look at it again tonight and let you know because I really like this mod. It actually worked for a few days till I tore it apart! LOL

You can either wait till later and I`ll post this or you can check out the album I`m sticking it in here
It`s going to be a complete step by step though

Making a eclipse mints tin mod pictures by _Connman_ - Photobucket

Now I`m waiting on this box to dry then I`ll drill the holes then start the wiring fun. But this is Florida and the sun will help me here perhaps I`ll be back on this mod soon today. Got to get some of the wire and stuff ready as well. Once this is done maybe I`ll post it in a new thread and see if it could get stuck in the M&M thread since this tin is such a great feeling mod to use.

You might want to check this picture out if your just wanting to know how I did the solder on the lid. A small spring would work if you have more space to the battery. I didn`t
Picture26.jpg

Just look on the lid and there is a blob of solder. This is the ground contact to battery making the entire box a ground.

Hey Connman, if you want I'll put that tutorial up with Dreams mods on VapeGate when you get it finished. I can put up the photos & commentary. Eventually, I'll get the front page put up & have links to everything there.

Stormi, since you've got it all put together, try adding a little solder to the tape to make the - connection to the battery. You can solder to that copper foil tape. Aslo, sometimes you just have to press on the lid & make sure it's closed good.
For the +, I used some real thin foam. Like Connman said, just something to keep the + side of the battery from touching the tin. If you've already got it seated in there, you can always use something sturdy & press on it to try to flatten it out some.

Well it's working...sometimes! I think the lid with the solder is not hitting all the time! I'll work on it again tomorrow, then I'm off for 4 days!!!!

That`s great news storminyte, It`s easy to just add a tad more solder to fix that.
I have the new one built myself with a LED and I did this one the hard way. Don`t know what I was thinking doing that the way I did. All my soldering was done inside the tin. That was no fun with no room to see past the soldering iron. But it came out the same as my easier way but only 3 times as long to finish it though.

So is this a juice feeder you made storminyte ? :p
That`s my next try on one of these tins. It wont be to much harder then what I went through on this one. Wow that was crazy I`m telling you.

But I got pictures to possibly post in the various steps but we will do it the easy way for that. And might be tomorrow night while I get them all loaded to photobucket. Still might post them in a new how to kind of thread since this just pretty much was a mod post to start with.

congrats storminyte on getting it sputtering :thumb:

That would be great Sci. Everyone needs this mod it fits so nicely in the hand. I`ll get to finishing up the picture later today possibly tonight. And see what it lays out like from there. :toast:

Sounds great.
At least, with these tins, if you have to solder something 'inside it', it won't melt.:)

Stormi - how's yours working?

OMG GREAT MOD!!
I have been sucking Eclipse mints for years (to cover my smoke breath when I went into work, dont have that problem anymore :)
I always had a problem chucking the empty tins in the bin when I was fnished with a box as I figured I could store something in them one day.

So I started throwing them into a box, hell I must have about 100+ of them in every colour and finally I have something I can use them for.
Can someone post where to get the coloured switches from please, I must have missed that somewhere.
Again great mod. well done

Sci- can you post a link to the boosters you use and a lil tut on how to wire it? I want to try one but have NO idea how.

Booster. Sent you a pm.
The tutorial, I'll have to work on. Funny you should ask, I just drilled holes in another tin last nite.

Sorry you're having problems with yours. It's something simple & when you find it, you're gonna be P.O.'d. that you didn't see it:confused:

Hi! I've been lurking on the mod forums for a while now. I have finally settled on the mod that I'm going to build. I looked around for the "perfect" housing and was surprized to find that I had one at home that will work great. I've had this little Coca Cola slider tin for a few years and don't even remember where I bought it. (maybe at one of the big drugstore chains) The reason I believe it will suit the mod perfectly is because it has the slider lid that completely detaches. I will have ample room in which to work. I have good, solid soldering skills and rudimentary, but adequate electronics knowledge, so with the great tutorials on ECF, I should have no major problems. Because I want to avoid having to drill out the lid for a finger hole to squeeze a juice bottle, I wanted to ask if anyone has come up with a satisfactory plunger type button to use for that purpose. Any ideas? I'm also considering leaving the key chain fob on it so I can hook it to a belt loop. I've needed a sturdy juicebox type mod and I'm hoping this will serve that purpose. Thanks!

First that`s one sweet tin you have to mod there Circumspice
I think Carlos used a button type on his first juice boxes to hit the bottle. Then the Reo as well uses this way. Pretty basic actually but I have yet to make one. Will be trying it soon on the eclipse mints tin. Tried to find where Redeyedancer think the creature of the Reo described it in a thread before they became a supplier status..

Can`t recall if there was a spring involved or not. I`m thinking the spring really wouldn`t be needed though if it was. Could help some I suppose.

Hey storminyte when you going to let us see you juice feed tin?
