I received 2 EGO batteries (from a reputable supplier on here) and both are giving me trouble. Both are dying within 30 minutes of install to the atty. Both were ordered on 1/13, so they are not old. I have a USB charger purchased from them and charged one yesterday evening for 5 hours and put the other battery on the charger last night around 9:00 and now (5:45am) after installing them to the atty both are dead. (My fiance has one and is on her way to work and called me to tell me hers died too) I can see one dying prematurely, but both of them? Seems odd to me. This is my first experience with an Ego battery, but the charger stays green, but the battery does flash 5 times when installed to the charger. The port I was using is the one I use to charge my I phone and MP3 players, so it "should" have enough power. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Something is definitely not right.

My first thought is the charger. Either the charger itself, or the socket it's plugged into. I know you charge your mp3 player off the same one, but it could still be a problem, and it's simple enough to test.

If that doesn't help, then my guess would be the charge cable itself. The odds of getting two bad ego batts in one order seem fairly small, but if you're not able to resolve it pretty much right away, you need to contact the vendor. Pretty much all reputable vendors offer a reasonable return period for things like batts, but few give you more than a month. The longer you wait, the more you risk not being able to return or exchange anything.

I have changed ports as of this morning, but won't know the results till later. and I did go ahead and send the vendor a message just so they know I may have an issue.

Try charging with the wall charger and if that doesn't work you really need to contact the vendor and have the charger replaced. You aren't the only one who has had this problem. I've read posts from a few people like this and the charger has been the culprit.

The only other charger I have is for a 510 battery and the eGo will not fit.
I did a search on here but could not find any definite issues relating to this type of problem.

I'm still leaning towards a charger problem, but you should try charging on the wall adapter first. That will help rule out a problem with the USB ports on your computer. I know you said you charge other things with that port, but it might not have enough power for a big battery like your eGo. I don't see how all of your batteries could be bad in such a short time. If you don't have a wall adapter then contact the vendor and tell them about this. I'm sure they will be more than willing to send out another charger.

Not all usb ports have the same output. My ego charger and Joye passthrough both work fine off the ports on the CPU, and not at all from the 2 on the keyboard.

Same deal with laptops. A lot of laptops don't put full power to some USB ports. Again, same deal if you have a USB port on the front of your case.

In any event, a powered USB hub is your friend.

I would test the resistance of your atty. I had one short out and would drain my batteries very quickly! I have several ego (650mah; 900 mah and 1000 mah) batteries and have had for three months and have never had one go bad yet. BUT I have had trouble with both the wall plug in not putting out enough power to charge the batteries up to full charge (red light did not turn green) and one shorted atty that would drain batteries within minutes of screwing them together. So IF you got all your attys from the same place, they might have gotten a defective batch.

You are charging Ego batteries on your PC? It probably takes longer to charge than your MP3 player. Some PCs power down the USB ports when idle. And some USB ports don't really have the stated 500mA of power available that they are supposed to.

I think get an Ego-specific AC-to-USB.

Anyone else agree?

You're certainly right that not all PC USB ports are fully powered, especially front panel USB ports and USB ports on laptops, plus, just as you say, some computers will power down USB ports when the computer is idle.

However, I still say a powered USB hub is a much better solution that AC-USB chargers.
