Hi,

Is it possible for an Ego Battery to lose its potentcy? Here is an example of what I mean:

I have a brand new 650mah ego battery. all charged up, I connect it to my atty and it hits like I like it to.

I have an older 900mah ego passthrough battery (not using it on USB when i am doing this). All charged up, it doesn't hit the same (same atty as before.. taken off other battery and put on this one). THe life is good, it doesn't seem to die quickly by any means.

I dont' get it. I don't have a Volt meter so I have yet to measure it.. but is it possible it is producing less than the 3.x volts it should be but putting out X volts over the 6 or so hours I get out of it?

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Thanks,
Frazz

My eGo battery/PT has a lower voltage than other ego batteries as well...but the other ego batts I got are not genuine Joytech while the passthrough is made by Joytech...so that may have something to do with it. Real egos have like 3.2 volt normal output while the other knockoffs put out 3.7-4.2.

Actually, I think my situation might be reversed. My new batteries sayd Ego-T on them (I assume they are genuine joytech). My passthrough has no markings, so I am not sure they are Genuine... any idea how to tell, or should it have markings?

Just a thought: If make/model differences don't work out....

1) clean the threads and center post well with ISO alcohol and dry. Contacts get oxidized over time.
2) try it while on USB if you can.

P.S. Hint on contact cleaning: while you have the stuff out - clean contacts on any cordless phones that you have that set into a charging base. Often done with a cotton swab and ISO (isopropyl alcohol 91% - Don't use rubbing alcohol that has oils or fragrances in it).

Still working on the posts :)

Just a question on attaching to USB on the computer. As much as you are aware, has anyone blown a usb port on a computer doing this? Makes me nervous putting a 20 dollar device on my 1000 dollar computer :)

Chalk up another post :)

I wonder about this too. I'm hesitant to use a passthru on my new MacBook Pro.

Genuine eGos have a white LED light for the button...knock offs have a blue LED...at least this is what I have heard.

It's a long answer... hang on.

1) The battery driven USB PT's like you are using only trickle charge the battery from the USB. So assuming they are functioning properly, it's not an issue. The ones you have to worry about are the 5 volt no-battery "direct PTs" that need 2 or more amps. Too much for most USB ports.

2) That said.... any device can short circuit and fry a port. E-cigs don't need a computer, so why use one? An A/C->USB adapter is inexpensive, can be used on any electrical outlet (no computer required) and keeps a computer port open for computer port stuff.

So... short answer... yes it is considered safe. Long term....get a wall wart or charger hub. 2.0 amps or better so you can use a 5 volt PT someday if you want.

P.S. There's lots of $20.00 computer usb crap..... fans, coffee warmers, blah, blah, blah. My general rule... if it needs a computer or computer needs it... it gets connected. If it doesn't, it doesn't get connected, but I might use a wall-wart for it, or avoid it altogether. Some people don't mind the exceptions to this rule for convenience. Of course, check the USB version (usually USB 2.0, or USB 3.0 these days) and the mA draw. Rule of thumb is 500 mA or less for a device is OK, 900 mA for 3.0 as I understand it.. with a good cable.)
