It was getting hot and I was getting a little bit frantic. Pulled it apart and still couldn't turn it off. Finally took it out in the backyard and buried it. Couldn't think of anything else to do and didn't want it exploding in the house. What SHOULD I have done?

Used a reo.

That's scary. Fast thinking on your part. I'm not sure what to do in that case.

Hmmmm that is kinda of strange, was it still warming up after you took the topper off?

Yes, and it's not the first ego battery that has come off the charger acting wonky. One came to its senses and 2 others were tossed. But this is the first one that was trying to kill itself. I thought it was the charging cable, but this battery was on a different one. Pi$$es me off. Not even remotely interested in a reo, Jason.

Where are you getting them?

What device are you using on them and what resistance?

Cheap batteries are cheap batteries. Saw a guy on here in the last few days who was on eGo number three in a week... from gas stations blister packs. Every one of them wonked out when charging.

Running low resistance devices on eGo's - below 2.0 ohm - almost always causes problems. The design isn't built for it, and chronic overheating the electronics and button kills them from low resistance use.

If the battery starts getting hot while charging that's an indicator that the battery chemistry has been stressed from running it at low resistance. The chemical structure is breaking down and it would be better to lose the battery at that point. If an eGo class battery, using the correct charger, is getting noticeably warm while charging it's at risk for a runaway thermal vent experience.

I am a tad concerned that you buried it...did you wait awhile first? I think I would have thrown it out the door and waited a few hours first before going anywhere near it.

No I think Fray did right. If anything happens it is contained with little oxygen. That's scary Fray, good thinking, but I'm sorry it happened to you...:(

There are fake knockoffs everywhere. Here's one page that shows some commented pictures of fake and real eGo and Spinner batteries and how to tell the difference. Beware of Ebay.

Excellent info. I'm happy that there's a reason for this happening and it's not something random. Thanks. They weren't cheap gas station batts, one purchased online, one at my local B&M and one Evod. I don't put anything lower than 2.0 ohms on them but I think I'll save the higher resistsnce coils for my vv/vw devices and stick with 2.2 - 2.4 on the egos and Evods. Burying that batt was the safest and quickest thing I could think of. I get a lot of roaming critters in my yard and I didn't want to put them in any danger by just leaving something shiney lying on the ground, although there's a possum I wouldn't mind seeing the last of.

Whoa, that's scary but I actually think it was quick and accurate thinking on your part. I probably would have put it on the other side of the yard while I dug the hole. And it would tick me off too! I've had bad luck with Ego batteries from our local B&M too but not to that degree. I usually got ticked and tossed them before they tossed me.

It did make me laugh after a horrible day though so thank you. It reminded me of a time I didn't know what to do with a box full of hard drives (before recycling them was prudent) and a small mountain of paper so my boss bulldozed them under on his land. You know, attorney-client privilege has to be protected some way!

Where'd you get it? In 5 yrs I've had 1 ego get really hot and I sat it on the carport til it cooled off and got rid of it :) Good call Fray :)
