I have done lots of searching on here regarding refilling the ego-c/leaking, and the thing that puzzles me is the talk about the cap at the end of the tank. The threads I have seen seem to say that people leave the caps on when replacing the tank, but it doesn't seem like the tank will fit in the cone with the cap off.

I have gone through one tank by taking the cap off, filling thru the little hole with a syringe, then holding the unit upside down, jammed the tank in, and puffed away.

When the tank looked almost empty, I held the unit upside down and pulled the tank out, and noticed a pool of liquid around the atomizer. Is this normal, or is this the leaking people are referring to? I'm thinking this might be annoying when changing flavors, especially.

If this is normal, and I am not doing anything n00bish, then maybe the folks saying ditch the tanks and stick with cartos are right :(

Thanks for your patience and advice!

I read the question 3 times, and I'm still not sure if I understood you right...

Tank must be closed with the cap, or everything will spill everywhere. Unless you mean that other cap that you put OVER the tank when you're not using it (to cover the little hole on the actual tank cap).

I usually get like a half a drop of the liquid on the cone around the atomizer, and that's all the leak I got ever since I started using my ego-c (plus the normal condensate).
Your "pool" of liquid might come from a damaged tank cap. Or, and I hope I'm just insane for thinking this, you actually placed open tank inside the atty cone.

Sorry, I guess I am thinking about the removable condom-thingie like you get with cartomizers. So the cap is the part with the hole? I guess the talk about soft caps/hard caps and the term "cap" itself (which to me implies easy removal) seems to have confused me a bit.

The pool seems to be about a drop of liquid when I remove the tank. Do you clean it each time you change tanks? And if I am now understanding the "cap" thing correctly, is there a different kind of replacement tank you can get? The base of the tank with the hole that does not seem to come off (the cap?) on mine his hard plastic. They are the ones that came with the kit.

Maybe I just have my "n00b cap" on too tight

There's a protective cap that keeps your juice from leaking when it's not in your atty. Also, you can remove the end of the tank; it's a cap with a hole in it that you can remove to refill. That's the cap people recommend leaving on.

Ah, ok, now I think I get it. I tried gently to pry it open with a tiny screwdriver, but felt no give so I didn't bother forcing it. I have a syringe that fits nicely into the hole.

So I gather the drop of fluid at the base near the atomizer is normal after you pull a tank off.

Sorry again for being such a dunce

Yes, the actual tank cap is originally made of hard plastic, but there are silicon caps which you can buy for easier removal if you fill tanks with a dropper. See this -> 10 x Silicon Joye eGo-T overflow prevention caps for tank cartridges - Joye eGo-T spare parts Heaven Gifts
I use hard plastic caps and I actually remove them with a small jaws while filling the tank. Comes right off, clean and simple. If you use syringe, you don't need to remove that cap at all, unless you want to clean the tank.

Drop of fluid is normal, I just use cotton tips every now and then to clean it. Its not a big deal either way.

Don't fret too much, I too have an EGO-C and yes the cap with the hole on your tank is removable. Though it is completely fine to fill the way you have been doing it with the syringe. As far as the little pool that gathers around your atty in your cone. Yes wipe it out when you can, but if you don't, don't worry.(<That doesn't look right?) A little bit of liquid on the EGO-C (a sealed battery system) is really nothing to worry about, be sure to clean your threads frequently. And happy vapes!

The syringe method is a pain the ...., as far as I'm concerned but if it works for you, then it's all good. The hard plastic cap is definitely hard to remove the FIRST time. After that, it pops off very easy for refilling. Once you are refilling the tanks with just your dropper bottle, you'll never go back to the syringe method (unless of course I just had a dud syringe and difficult juice bottles?).

I guess I'm just worried that prying the cap off every time I fill the tank will shorten its life. I did find an alternative to the syringe tho:

One 15ml blunt needle tipped e-Liquid bottle

Yeah, it only holds 15ml, but it's good for me. I'll just use the syringe to pressure wash the tanks...it was a bit of a pain getting the liquid out of the bottle with the syringe, then cleaning the syringe after every use, etc...but I just received 4 of these and I like them, especially for 2 bucks.

Pity there isn't a dunce emoticon, perhaps I can just change my avatar.

cost doesnt have anything to do with it. no one wants to have to go through the hassle of buying, ordering, shipping new things all the time if they dont have to.

Ive been running the Ego-C now for a couple months. Ive been using the "prying with a pair of scissors" method to get my cap off as well, and yes, it does result in leaking eventually. its a very slight leak and it ends up leaking UPWARD believe it or not (where the tank cartridge meets the cone). That happens because i pry the cap on the flat edge, which is right below the air vents.
With that said, it is very normal to have slight juice buildup inside the cone. Its condensation. There should never be a "pool", but it should look mor elike a morning dew, if you will.
I am actually going to be ordering a syringe tomorrow. if you use the syringe method, you will never ever have to order new tanks, as long as you are gentle putting them in/taking them out, and wash them out like once a week.

"No one"? To each his own I guess.
I'm not really going through hassle of "buying, ordering, shipping all the time". I click a few buttons, and after a while a mailman comes on my door. I prefer that than taking out the needle every few hours.
Still, silicone caps make whole process a lot easier.
