Oh, I forgot to mention the wonderful Boge 2.0 Ohm cartos. Regular old size, gotta keep dripping to keep 'em wet, but what flavor and clouds! At 2 ohms they are just at the edge of being safe on eGo batteries. We all know the EMDCC is a bit over the top, right? Whose eGo batteries all died recently? Anyway, so how do the Boges die?

BTW, I lost 2 Echos to the wash. They grew mold during the drying period. I could taste like a leftovernight laundry taste. Tried to soak in H2O2 and dry in the convection oven, no joy. Taste still there. Should have used H2O2 from the gitgo. The one that's losing steam still tastes good, though. And still reading 2.5 Ohms. There's something likable about these. We have too many toys. And now the spousal unit is, like me, walking around saying "where did I put my vape?". But she's NOT smoking! Almost 3 weeks now, on 30 mg/ml DIY.

I found this cool vape-friendly gizmo at the local bookstore (and at CVS): reading glasses with lights. Now I realize none of you here are old enough to need 2.50 reading glasses, but for me they are handy when working on vape-gear, and, when you drop something on the floor, you slip them down your nose and turn on the lights: ""There it is!". Just one warning. Don't forget to turn off the lights when you go outside at night, or your neighbor with the rusty shotgun is likely to scream "Alien" and let ya have it.

Back to EMDCCs :)

I was juggling cartos last night and managed to drop a two-day old VZ EMDCC in an alcohol bath. No biggie, I have several of them and it'll rinse and dry just fine but - I had two Smoktech EMDCCs left, one green bag Smok logo and one original cellophane bag with no logo. I was juggling cartos because the spousal unit asked for one, I gave her the green bag carto since she doesn't mind them and I prefer a little easier draw - and I wanted to get rid of the last of the Smoktech cartos.

I took the original cellophane bag EMDCC that nobody's really had any problem with and the thing was pretty much unusable. *Really* tough draw and after about an hour I pitched it and put on a VZ carto - but this is the first one out of the original cellophane bag batch that's had issues.

edit: I don't normally keep track of this but I just counted up where all the EMDCCs went at least as far as I can remember. Note the missus and I both use them -

2 - in use now (both were replaced last night).
1 - coil died at 30 days. Impressive.
1 - killed with a paper clip.
3 - cleaned and drying now for the emergency box because they still draw well.
2 - pitched because they were too gunked up to use even after cleaning. Wife doesn't do paper clips.
1 - pitched because it didn't work right even when new.
1 - gave to a friend.
7 - unused in my vaping box.

Interesting, how do you like the vaping zone EMDCC vs. the Smoketechs. Haven't been keeping up with this thread but want to know if it's an improvement or not. Probably gonna order some later on and wanna know what current users are thinking about these.

Also, Madvapes now has drip tips for the EMDCC if anyone doesn't know about them already:

Black Delrin Drip Tip for the EGO Dual Coil
Silver Drip Tip for the EGO Dual Coil

Round 1: clearos

1: killed with a paperclip
1: cracked body beyond repair
2: throw the hell out when the non clearo versions came in due to already developing cracks.

Total lifespan: 3 weeks.

Round 2, 9 black bodies:
1: blown coil, discarded
1: in heavy use for three weeks. Cleaned in boiling water once with great effect.
1: in heavy use for 2 weeks, having some mild tightness issues with draw
3: filled with 100% vg juice and frequent use for ~1 week, still vaping incredibly well
1: perished in the death of ghetto syringe tank
1: lost to the ether. No idea where it went
1: still in the spare supplies box.

Total life: 3 weeks, 6 surviving.

Round 3: en route!

what exactly is the purpose of the paper clip up the center? i have heard several people mention it but just never really understood the reason behind it. still new to carto maintenance.

when i got my CE2 clearos i really liked them. but i thought their lifespan was too short. mine started to get pretty weak after just 1 day. then the plastic would get weak and crack. on the ones i had, i noticed that the heating coil was only wrapped around the wick 3 times. this, to me, is an explanation behind why some of them were weak on vapor and flavor production.

So I take it the boiling went well? I might try that. How many boil cycles did you do to get the water bubbling clear?
Did you order again from MV or did you get the clones from VZ?

Just to clear any hardened residue from the tube. You are not wanting to scrape the coils when you do this, you will kill the carto. Just be careful when you do this, the coils are delicate and will break. You need a very thin pin, I think the paper clip is too thick so I use a real thin hat pin type of pin. But just blowing out the tube every time after you fill will usually do the trick and keep that center tube clear of juice. Never drip into the tube for starters, many people think that's where the juice should go including myself when I first started using cartos.

More from MV, purely out of convenience. I had to get a volt meter and battery charger anyway, so I threw another few in with the order. They're Not bad or unusable, and with the lady and I moving in to VG juice a lot more, I'll take what I know works over six's unenthusiastic review of Boba's in the vz. I might try them later.

As for boiling, I boiled around 3 inches deep of water on high, tossed two emdccs in, waited 5 minutes, emptied, blew out, and the second round was clear water whe. I emptied it. There was the tiniest residual taste left when I refilled it with a different juice, but it was gone by the third drag and it's a champ. If you want it perfectly clean, I'd do 3 cycles. I'm toying with the idea of keeping a double stock on hand and boiling/trading off every week for extra life, but I feel like I'd waste a lot of juice for little benefit.

Maybe it's just my OCD talking, but I've never had this problem either. I don't dare stick anything in that tube (ps. If you dissect it, it's not a tube 60% of the time, just a hole in the filler) after frying a couple of these that way. Keep your juice on you and pop the tip off once in a while. Is the filler looking dry at the top? Stick a couple more drops in, keep the juice flowing and fresh!

You'd hate to see me fill a carto then :D

I syringe fill then stand the thing up in a shot glass and squirt a couple ml right on top of the packing and let it drain, then blow it out, wipe it off, recover the extra juice with a syringe and put my toys away.

If you do use a paper clip it has to be very straight and you have to be very careful. If you force the thing you're pretty much guaranteed to kill the carto - been there, did that :D

I don't boil any more - I just soak them in 99% IPA overnight and rinse them really well. H2O2 works okay and if you can get PGA where you live (I can't) that'd be preferable to the isopropyl alcohol, but I did a buncha research and the 99% drugstore IPA dries with no residue. Some people still wouldn't want to use it, but it ain't killed me yet :D

I thought the tube extended all the way down to cover the wires. Never took one apart yet. LOL. Hmm, maybe the filler is closing in too much where the tube stops and that might be causing the harder draw after several uses. So sticking a pin in through the bottom just a little way might open up that hole again to create more airflow. I was more worried about the top part of the carto but might have to reverse my thinking here....

There's a small tube of gauze like stuff wrapped around each coil at the top and bottom , but in between is just filler. That swelling up does seem like a likely culprit for thickening draw.

Did you check the air holes in the skirt, too? Did you have to take a file to any of your skirts? If the metal isn't breathing there it'll stiffen the draw in a heartbeat.

Wiz, I'm still in Mi. PGA is a pipe dream :p i could get my hands on some ever clear, but that's about it.

No I've never had to file one, but I still have several of the first old ones left and I'll tell ya, they don't fire on my new KGO, even with doing the center pin pull up. But I still need to try out the new version on the KGO, hopefully they will work without having to fiddle with anything. I heard they fixed the connection problem so I'll fill a new one today and see whats up.

Haven't had to adjust a single thing with the new version on my new KGOs. You should be good to go.

Also, liberty flights order just rolled in. Be somewhat weary of the ego derlin tip they're selling. It fits an EMDCC, but it is an absurdly tight fit. Holy crap. It shaved a piece of the o-ring off putting it in the first time. The taste does get less rubbery with it, though. I'm a fan.

Forgot you were in MI too :D

CVS sells 99% IPA and I've been using it with good results. I did a buncha research after a couple questions were raised here and yeah, vaping *liquid* IPA will make you sick - but the stuff doesn't leave any residue when it dries and I rinse the cartos in hot water, blowing through both ends half a dozen times and then dry with a hair dryer on low.

But - the carto's gotta be dry before you put it back in service - I rubber band a few of them together after I rinse them out real good and blow them out then use the wife's hair dryer on low to blow into the open end of the cartos for half an hour or so.

But - I can certainly understand if someone didn't wanna clean cartos with something they couldn't put in their body ;)

I figure I'll keep boiling for a while until it gives me a reason to stop. If it ain't broke and all. I like the peroxide idea, too. I have plenty of that hanging around from troublesome ears. Maybe dump peroxide through, let it sit and foam a minute and then boil the suckers. I bet that cleans up nice...

And I'll forgive you for forgetting about me since I did finally add an avatar to my page :p
