Thank you so much for sharing your experience! The tank and coils do make a huge difference. When I quit I was using a Joyetech AIO with the 0.6ohm MTL coils and 12 mg was too much for me (I smoked 15 to 20 light cigs a day). I think the 12 - 18mg range should cover her and I'll take an extra 2 bottles of unflavored (one at 18mg and one at zero mg) so she has options.
I'm guessing that the 0 nic might be the one that gets added. I'm at 6 mg now, but I wanted a higher nic ejuice for those times when I wanted a little oomph so I recently bought a bottle of 12 mg. Put some in an an Ego Mega styled tank (TW CLL) with a .8-.9 ohm SS316L coil and the throat hit was too much for me. I have to run it in a resurrected Mini Pro Tank II to use it. Heh.

Hard to tell what a neophyte will like tho - we've probably all forgotten to some extent what a real cigarette throat hit feels like. I have anyway.

Also, some people have a real problem at first with inhaling vapor; something about the hot vapor makes them cough a lot.

what battery / mod ya giving her .... ?

IMO - sometimes you need PLENTY of hard hitting NIC
then sometimes you want a LIGHT TOUCH
why I suggested 18 / 12 / 6 mg ea in a tank...

and again, just let her have HER HEAD - a few simple instructions and on her own for the break-in period - then SHE will have Questions...

I believe TOO MUCH info & hand-holding is detrimental

Actually I want her to stick with stock coils when she starts. I have about 15 of 'em here that I never used so I plan on taking those with me and telling her to use those first before she moves to the CLR's.
I quickly got a burnt flavor out of those and stopped using them, but I guess they might be ok for a beginner who only does strictly MTL. Guess it will depend on her smoking style. <shrug>

I talked her into buying 2 eGo One Mega VT kits from URVaping. She came down for Easter and when we (she) went outside for a smoke she was checking out my Mega (which I had on a 75W Pico).

I should mention that she has tried vaping before but she had some old Vision Spinner with some sort of carto on it and she was vaping zero mg nic. I tried telling her she was not going about it correctly (that was about 6 months ago) but.... stubborn. So this time.... I thought maybe some hand-holding might be appropriate.

Yeah, I know they don't last long but I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible for her so she doesn't give up (like the last time).

Thanks Puff.... lots of good advice here from all you guys.

How long have you had that tagline, "... you have to "Learn" how to Vape, it's not smoking..." ?
I never noticed it before.

I think I better remember to say that to her! At 65 and retired for 10 years, she's not interested in learning anything new (or at least that's the impression I get).

lol... I guess I just never noticed it till now but it sure will come in handy when I see my mom's friend :thumb:
I already gave her the "it's easy to smoke, but it hard to vape" talk so now I need to take a different approach.

@ceeceeisme: I started (quit smoking) at 12mg/ml 3 months ago. I mix my liquid myself and started to dilute after about 3-4 weeks. I am at 6mg/ml for about 2 weeks now.
Has anyone welcomed you to the thread? If not

I'm stoked. I've been looking for a cheaper no-hassle way to vape during the week and cut down on the hobby and rebuilding aspect of vaping, who has the time, not me, lol. The CLR coils give a very good vape, better than the nautilus coils i was using (7.22 a five pack from ecig.com, about the same as CLRs from FT). I took apart a CLR coil today, checked it all out, how to recoil, etc. Then I found these pre-wound 1.0 ohm coils made for the CLR:
CLR Atomizer Head Accessory Pack
That will cut my cost down by half for a like new CLR, and more importantly to me it will only take a few minutes to put these in and rewick. (I have my own cotton bacon V2 though).
I"ve looked around on fasttech for pre-wound coils near the CLR specs, they don't exist at 6 wraps spaced, 2.5mm, 1.0 ohm or so as best I can tell. I did order three packs of CLRs from FT and a few higher resistance nichrome pre-coiled to try out (both resistance and NR-R-NR).

With the Ego One/Amor tanks, CLR coils, and my myjet pods (which I will fill twice and toss, in a container, going to quit trying to rebuild, takes me way to long with these), I can go back to almost convenience vaping at a more affordable price. A 2 ml Ego One tank last me almost two days, then I will rewick and if needed put in a new coil. A 1.2 ml my jet pod a day or so, then I refill it once, and go another day, and from now on I will just rinse it out and put it aside in case I want to rebuild later (doubtful). I will save building my Kayfun V3's with SS, kanthal and such for rainy days. :)

wow, that's pretty expensive

$4.50 for a 100' spool of 28g SS and you can make 300 coils

She has been forewarned these batteries won't last too long and it was hard enough for me to talk her into buying them. She wants built in batteries only - I tried telling her the pitfalls but she won't listen. I'm hoping that she likes these tanks enough to keep vaping then I'll point her towards picking up a couple of Pico's and some good 18650's.

I bought 2 of these kits too - just for the tank. I'm happy to use up the batteries but all I was really after was the V1's. My batteries are still going strong but then I always have 7 or 8 devices going every day.

Ah well, as long as she knows what she's getting into.

I've always been a tube mod fan so when I found that these batts actually worked I packed everything else away for almost a month and was using nothing else. Then the one VT started giving up and I was missing adjustability so they've been retired. Piffed one mega batt away already.

Thank you so much! I'll mix her some 18mg, 15mg and some 12mg and she can decide what she needs. I guess I'll leave the CLR's at 1 ohm but I think I'll rewick all of them with rayon for her. :)

And you can save a step if you like. Your 18 and your 12 can be combined to make the 15. :)

I hate to say it, but it seems to me that having so little choice of wattage would greatly inhibit her odds of success. She'll have to have a bit more luck that one of the wattages happens to be just right.

Why not try a regular VW mod?

My thought too, DH.

 Because after having spent a lifetime buying smokes for untold thousands of dollars she's hesitant to spend $100 to try vaping.

Wrap your mind around that one!

(she ain't broke... not by a long shot)

Hmmmm... that's a tough one, ceecee.

Wishing you the best with her. Let us know how it plays out, please?

Will do Kat! Her kits should be arriving in the next week or 10 days. When she calls me I'll pack up my toolbox and head over and do my best. :)

Honestly, THAT, I get...

Cigarettes are so very easy... just a few bucks... a lighter... poke on in and light it up.

Vapes, on the other hand, are expensive and complex. $70 for a kit, another $20 for the e-liquid, and ya gotta charge and prime and it leaks and burns or gurgles...

It's hard to look at the long game when you're not 100% SURE it will work, and a monkey is on your back chattering "now now now" into your ear.

I've seen a lot not make it because smoking is easier, and PERCIEVED as cheaper.

This woman is not poor by any stretch of the imagination so I've been playing the angle that her health is priceless. She suffers from COPD so she has to see a respirologist and even that doctor is telling her to use vaping as an alternative.

Fun fact: just after Christmas she went out and spent several hundred dollars on nicotine patches, used them and threw them away (as one is supposed to do with them). Stopped smoking for 6 weeks and was a miserable witch and ended up going back to smoking. I asked her where those patches were now? In the garbage of course!

I just rolled my eyes  (yup, just like that)
